Some of those things included listening to the wrong kind of music, being out past curfew, and for women, not wearing the hijab.
Civil Rights: Protests often turned violent on either or both sides. Police used uncivil weapons of violence to stop civil rights protests. Many people died from white supremacist groups like the KKK and were often killed in protests.

Rosa Parks "Nah":
On a bus in 1955 a black woman named Rosa Parked was asked to move from her seat so a white man could have a seat. She refused and was kicked off the bus and arrested. Though successful, her actions inspired many people to satnd up for themselves and act out.
