However the USSR take a giant leap forward by sending Sputnik 5 into space with two dogs, Belka and Strelka and a range of plants into space, but the big part is they got them to land successfully. It basically was the first to the moon is the winner of the space race. Both the USSR and the USA had taken some major losses before getting to this point. Like Apollo 1 for the USA, where 3 astronauts died, and Soyuz 1 where a cosmonaut died. However, the bold USA sent out Apollo 11 where Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins were sent to reach the moon. They were some problems they had to face but they landed well on the moon and became the first people on the moon. The tensions between the USA and USSR had softened. So they launched the first cooperative mission called the Apollo-Soyuz mission. The Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft dock in space and the two commanders who were Tom Stafford and Alexei Leonov exchange the first international handshake. In the end, Looking at a race that lasted for two decades that had some of the best scientific feets imaginable makes me wonder what if they worked together from the start. what achievements would they have achieved? That is the major consequence I see in the space race.

Some people can see the space race as a side event in the cold war. People believe that the proxy wars, nuclear bombs, and the berlin wall were the only important ones, however, they could not be more wrong. The space race was a giant step in the field of science, more specifically; telecommunications, micro-technology, computer science, and solar power. Lots of stuff we use today become of the space race. For instance, if someone ever gets badly injured and doctors need to use a CT scan to see what going on, they would because of the space race. That is because CAT scans and radiography were both initially developed for deep-space imaging and photography. Also, the world's first portable computer and mouse were created for space exploration and then adapted for commercial markets. Even the wireless headsets we use today originate from NASA creating hands-free equipment for astronauts and pilots. As well as without the space race so much of what we know about space would not have happened. Maybe we would just have started to get people to the moon. Also, now all the major projects we have in space exploration like going to start civilization on mars and project Artemis by NASA would not happen. Lastly, the most important thing that the space race attributed to is a generation of people who are inspired and want to keep exploring. Lots of people inspired by these events want to be the next generation of astronauts and scientist, who change the world.
