In "Don Juan", authority and power are shown as pretty messed up. Don Juan deals with many people that abuse their power such as his parents and Donna Julia. They use their authority and power to get what they whether that affects others in a bad way or not.

For example, Don Alfonso's authority over Donna Julia is not just about his status as a husband but is also influenced by societal norms and expectations.

Andrey Hernández N.

The improper relationship between Donna Julia and Juan is an example of power and authority because of age, maturity and experience. This relationship exists because of an idea of “love” which impulses Julia to exercise power on Juan who is an inexpert in these themes. The differences of age, maturity and experience between them led Julia to act for a different purpose than Juan who can love her in a more genuine way. Besides they are 16 and 23 years old, there is a difference of experience because Julia is married and knows more about how society works. She seems to be a cynic, to act under her curiosity and take advantage of an inexperienced Juan.

-Monserrath Morales M

Moral is shown as an ambiguity. Firstly, Don Juan himself represents a dichotomy of morals: he is a victim and also a perpetrator. He is a victim of his circumstances (his kindness, the state of being charming, the education received, the luxury, etc) and a perpetrator for exploiting those very circumstances. By exercising his privileges, he es portrayed guilty, but also is venerated.

"Perfection is insipid in this world of ours". Even being perfect does not matter when morality rules the world; moral absolutes destroy virtues.

In Byron's Don Juan, the characterization of religion is one that gives a lot to discuss. In a short analysis, this specific aspect is inferred as a criticism to a traditional view of religious beliefs and practices, creating a dichotomy of thinking between desire and "traditional morality" linked to the historical perception of religion.

-Mauricio M.C.

In the period of time where Don Juan is set, population beliefs were ruled by religion. As it can be noticed, even though everyone followed "the rules" stated by religion, women had to depend to a man, but men could do whatever they wanted; if a man had more than one wife, nothing happened, but if a woman had more than one husband, this was not correct at all.

Alonso Chaves

Most of the times people only judge a book by its cover. The story of Don Juan can be seen as a cruel and a emotionless subject but what people don't see is that behind that person there was a child full of dreams and goals that at some moment his innocence was taken by a horrific person. Nothing was the same after that moment and what we see in the story is the result of all the negative values that a society can bring to a young person.

The connection between power and censorship is simple. People in charge censor information to stay in control, keep people quiet, or keep their authority intact, those who challenge powerful groups might get censored to shut them up and keep things the same. So, it's like a constant battle between control and fighting back. People in power try to control what's said and known to keep their power, while those without power try to speak up and break through censorship to defend their rights and freedom.
Don Juan faces censorship because his romantic adventures go against what society thinks is right. The upper class criticizes and tries to control him for breaking their rules. But Don Juan's refuse to follow these rules and goes against the powerful people who want to control him.
