The SCIENCE Collaborative continues to be a motivating force for institutional change grounded in the hope that comes from meaningful, shared success. Our community is uniquely focused on student well-being and success. And our community is uniquely positioned to enhance inclusive STEM education through collective action. I'm excited about what we will accomplish together.

I think of the SCIENCE Collaborative as one of the most unique and hopeful spaces in higher education. Where else can a group of academics from such a rich variety of institutional contexts convene and collaborate in an ongoing way? I am thinking of this recalibrated SCIENCE Collaborative as an incubator. I hope that we'll continue to partner on these and other projects beyond the timeline of the existing proposal, and I think the current proposal gives us a powerful opportunity to hone tools for collaborating across our different institutional contexts that will give us an effective onramp for future activities beyond ie3.

My vision for the SCIENCE Collaborative is for it to continue being what it has already been for me and many others in and impacted by our network, something different. The evolution of LCC2 to the SCIENCE Collaborative Network signified, not only to HHMI but also to us as agents of change, a deeper commitment to the work ahead of us: constantly learning and growing in community as we push forward efforts that keep students at the center of our shared work.

While HHMI has decided to no longer fund our work, the commitment we as a network set out to uphold just three short years ago doesn’t change or stop, just as the barriers facing our students today do not disappear as they continue their academic journeys. Now, more than ever, is an important time not to just offer lip service to our students, telling them to push through their challenges despite uncertainty, change, or discomfort, but to embody what we say, demonstrating through our actions that we, too, will push forward despite obstacles. As we forge a path forward together, we continue this work for them.

I see the Collaborative continuing to learn and grow as we master the art of pivoting, leveraging the shared work of our institutions through the slated four projects and amplifying these efforts to extend as far into the community as possible. Creating space for new members to join this work while acknowledging the diversity in structure, commitment, and success at the institutional level. This means recognizing the barriers that ignited change and adjusting our scope even when it looks and feels uncomfortable. I also envision a greater need to prioritize incubating space and support for the projects and ideas developing at the institutional level, ones that have the potential, in the near future, to allow our network to continue expanding through more grants, collaborators, and a growing community of practice with the support of our network director and the SCIENCE Collaborative community.

“With us, not for us” has shaped much of our work, but in this moment, we must also remember, we are better together. “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” – African Proverb
