This article talks about the effects of climate change, but more specifically about what it is doing to the production of meat in livestock animals. In this article, farmers talk about how the increase in heat causes pig production to decrease because they store less protein when it is hot because their sweat glands are inefficient. The overall physique of pigs are now thinner and lighter making the meat production decrease.

This article talks about the increase in pig population in a town in North Carolina and the effects the odors of the hogs and their feces have on human health. Steven Wing did research and found a correlation between air pollution from the pigs and an increase in rates of nausea, blood pressure, and respiratory issues in children and natives who live in this area. The stench of feces that causes air pollution is a natural thing, but not when the area is being overpopulated with these animals.

Not only is it affecting fish populations, but it eventually comes back to harm humans as well who are the cause of it. The focus of this article was to discuss how many humans rely on fish as their main food source, and how if we continue to overfish them instead of just a constant regular fishing, then the population will eventually be scarce and cause harm to those humans that are dependent on the fish as well.

This article explains why this is a problem that cannot happen. Not only would this cause an over population of chickens and an over killing of them, but chickens also require a lot of land and irrigation. Cows do use a lot more of these resources, but it is more difficult to account to the needs of chickens because to equal the amount of beef to poultry, requires a lot more chickens. Chickens must be kept indoors to be slaughtered, so there would be more land taken up because of the over population of chickens.

This article focuses on the effects of farming a lot of chicken in small confined areas. It talks about how this causes a contamination of soil and pollutes air and water. As previously discussed, this can harm human health, but it can also harm other animals. With runoff from all of these highly populated areas of chicken, fish and local aquatic life will suffer from the chemicals and feces/manure that will buildup and contaminate where they live.

Many animals that humans cherish, whether it be for the consumption of them or for their looks, all have an impact on the environment whether we know it or not. For my CCA topics, I chose to focus on four different animals that are common to society and see what effects they have on the environment and local ecosystems today. The reason why I decided to focus on these topics is because most animals seem harmless, but as the population of humans is increasing, I want to see what effect all of the species have on the environment and humans as well. To focus in on one specific topic, I am going to discuss the research I did on pigs and hogs in today’s culture. Pigs were my initial topic before I decided to expand it to other animals. I started with pigs because they are my favorite animals and I have also wanted one as a pet, especially on my farm. Having this background, I wanted to see what effects pigs have as a whole especially if humans are producing more and more of them. I looked into how the environment is affecting pigs and also how pigs are affecting the environment.

Climate change and the increasing global temperatures is a rising problem in today’s society. Not only is it affecting humans, but it is also affecting animals and different species. One of the articles I read and discussed talked about how the increasing climate is causing pig production and livestock meat production to decrease. When the temperature increases, pigs’ sweat glands are inefficient causing them to store less protein. This overall causes the pigs’ physique to be thinner and lighter, so there is less meat to be used for production. This causes issues for the pigs because their overall health is decreasing. This also causes problems for humans who are dependent on the meat production of pigs because if they are smaller, there is less meat to be produced and sold for human consumption.

One problem pigs cause for the environment is their production of manure and feces. Some of the articles I read talked about how pig and hog manure causes problems for human health and also water contamination. With the population of humans increasing, more pigs are needed to keep up with the needs of humans. This causes small areas to be highly populated with pigs to be able to use them for meat production. With highly populated areas of pigs causes there to be excessive amounts of manure in small areas. This stench builds up and is found to have a correlation to air pollution and human health risks such as nausea, increase in blood pressure, and respiratory issues. This is only a problem because the areas are so densely populated, so there is a large concentration of manure being produced causing this unbearable and harmful stench. With an excessive amounts of manure buildup, this also runs off into local areas of water. This contaminates drinking water for humans and other animals.

Pigs are animals that are often overlooked in today’s society. After reading articles, I learned that pigs are affected by the environment in many different ways and also impact the environment whether it be negative or positive as well.
