Ask the person assigning you the task the timeframe in which they will need their answers, the budget you have to do this work, and when the absolute deadline is to have the project done by. It is crucial you get the specifics so you cando what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to.

Read through the case and take detailed notes. These notes will be used to identify key words.

Using the keywords identified in step 2, now go to a Kentucky secondary sources bookshelf. In this book open up the index and look for your keywords and find cases relating to your own. Be sure to note the volume, section, and page number of all cases you deem potentially relevant to your own.

Read through the potential secondary sources identified in step 3 and take detailed notes of each one. Using these secondary sources, note down primary sources they used to make their case.

Now that we know some primary sources to look for, open the index using your same key words to find statutes, regulations, and/or constitutional articles of amendments.

Note: all of these must be shepardized, meaning we must go and see if any of our sources have been overruled, repealed or amended. Also to make sure the case has not been used in a negative way.

Once you find a primary source that you believe matches your case open up a digest. Note down the citations for your case in order to find the reporter. Read through the reporters report and see how they interpreted the law
