For example on page sixty-four when Adam is trying to find his friend he talked to two boys. They asked him where he was from and he said Pearl Harbor. This was an issue because a few Japanese people bombed Pearl Harbor. Then all of the Japanese were scapegoated just because they were related to a group of people that did the wrong doing. After he said it he realized the mistake. His mom is becoming more independent and that makes Adam feel different. (In a bad way.) The on page 48 he has a letter that he needs to get to someone in Manzanar, a Japanese internment camp. He has become more independent and less covered by his mom's wing. He decides that he will do what he wants and go to Fresno a close town to Manzanar. After he gets back from running away his mom just argues with his mom and goes up stairs. He didn't run in and give a hug he just walked in he was a renter, not a family member. He said he was wounded at Pearl Harbor and tried to seem big in new school. This didn't work for him and he got a swirlie and the bully's at the school now are picking on him. This is how Adam thought he could get friends. This shows me that babe can be awful but later on mabby he might help him in a way since on page 46 Adam punched him because he made fun of his dad who passed away.
