In what ways was this chunk a window or a mirror? Use the following questions to guide your response, but really we want to hear your personal thoughts and reactions to this chunk! Respond with at least four (4) sentences.

What experiences do you share with the characters?

In what ways is your family similar or different from those in the book?

What did you learn about a character or group of people that you have not personally experienced?

An experience I can share with the characters would be moving. My family is different from the one in the book because in the book the parents are very careless about everything. I learned that they care about more about survival skills instead of learning about how to work in society. The also seem very independent.

Choose: one (1) of the motifs and respond in at least four (4) sentences about how this motif is prevalent in this section.

Home

I chose the motif home because it is mostly shown through this section and it's very detailed when they describe it. Each time they move or are on the run they describe the place they are staying at like the desert or the trailer home they could describe what they see. I also chose homoe because the dad tells the kids that once his invention works he will build them a glass castle. Even if the kids don't believe it they like to imagine it.

Jeannette and her older sister were the ones who were speaking in this quote. This quote stood out to me because it's giving a clue that they are probably going to be running for a while.

Your responses should thoroughly respond to the prompt in at least three sentences.

1) An event that happens in the reading is when Jeannette Walls is cooking hot dogs by herself at the age of 3 and accidentlu burns herself and has to be taken to the hospital this reveals that the main character is very independent since a young age.

2) In the passage where the dad pulls over grabs the cat and throws it out of the in the middle of nowhere provoked the emotion of anger and sadness because he does not seem to care about the emotions of his kids.

3) A significant event that happens in the story is when the family keeps moving from place to place or even sleep in the desert because the are running from the "FBI" I think the author's purpose in writing that was to show ow careless her parents were.

Your responses should thoroughly respond to the prompt in at least three sentences.

1) The economic desicions determine the characters life because when the dad decides to purposely get fired from his job they start to have no money which means Jeannette and her siblings have to starve themself and this affects them because the start to become angry and have to help their mom with her teaching.

2) The ideological values that are explicit are that they care more about what they personally want like art supplies are stuff to make a gold machine and they don't care a bout how thet spend their money.

3) The book does criticize class structure because it shows how the family poor because they don't care about work which leads to the kids stealing food from their friends that have more money.
