It's essential that students and teachers know each other. As teachers, we must learn and be sensitive to the diversity of our students and their cultural backgrounds. Each student brings cultural experiences that will add diversity to each classroom, and students need to be related to as full, complex, multidimensional people.

However, this is an area we as a school community are still developing. Many of our students and staff have experienced a significant amount of trauma during this pandemic. In addition, many of our students are in constant crises mode at varying times of the day, yet our instruction does not reflect these challenges. Our school community can benefit from more restorative practices and trauma informed instructional practices to support our students.
