Obsession - by Frankie J, is a song that my mom played a lot whenever I was young, and it’s a song that I learned the words to and put my own meaning behind. In the song it says “Amor, No Es Amor, is this an illusion? That I have in my heart?” No Es Amor means “it is not love”. Whenever I was 3, my mom tried to convince me that the man that I knew as my dad, wasn’t my dad. And she’s not wrong, he is my step father, but at the same time, he was the only dad I had ever known. She would say “He doesn’t love you!” Which would anger and confuse me. And whenever I would call him, I would ask him if he loved me, and he did. In 2007 I was going to preschool, my mom was now married to my little brothers’ dad, his name is Anthony. To say the least about him, he was a not so good father, or husband. As yelling and fights erupted from our household, my mom found solace in the car, as it was somewhere where she was free to express herself and free to do and say what she wanted in the little amount she had from the house to the school, or to the store. This song made me realize how my mom felt about their relationship. She knew that it was in a bad spot, and she knew exactly what he has. A scrub, that simply did not deserve her love. Needless to say, this marriage did not last long.

So in 2013, I turned 11. That was the beginning of my 6th grade year, and as many other can probably relate, that’s whenever I had my first relationship, though we all know middle school relationships are as real as unicorns. But that’s what I wanted, I felt alone and (for some dumb reason) I thought that a girlfriend would make that better. So I started looking for one. Let me tell you, I was the opposite of good looking back then, can’t say much now either. Eventually, I found someone who interested me, and that was interested in me, and so started my “first relationship ship”. And for the time being, my lonliness vanished, and I was happy.
