The Opium Wars, the result of trading and smuggling Opium between China and England, greatly impacted how the power of England was viewed. For example, China’s loss gave foreigners extraterritorial rights. In addition, the wars showed how much stronger England’s enhanced boats were than China’s older boats, which showed the power that came with the industrial revolution.

The creation of factories had a great impact on how people lived their day to day lives. For example, the quality of their health severely declined when they moved to the nearby polluted cities to work in the factories. In addition, children had to work long hours, and they often didn’t have time to eat, which left them very malnourished.

Queen Victoria greatly impacted the power that England held. To begin with, it was during her reign that England reached the Golden Age when they held a very high status among other countries. In addition, England obtained control of about one quarter of the surface of the Earth, which meant that they had more territory to industrialize as well as more access to resources that helped build the industrial revolution.

For example, the Britains had to send their sons off to help control and “civilize” the Africans, which was a dangerous task. In addition, the Africans were framed as being monsters and other inhuman creatures that the British were tasked with managing.
