Wilfred Owen joined the army in October 1915 and became a lieutenant. He joined the French Manchester Legion in January 1917. During his stay in France, Owen began to write his war experience as a psalm. In the summer of 1915, Owen was repatriated to Britain for being diagnosed with bullet shock. During his recovery from recuperation, Owen met the poet Siegfried Sassoon, who guided and encouraged him to write, as did Robert Graves. Over the next few months Owen wrote a series of poems, including Anones for Doomed Youth, Disabled, Dulce et Decorum Est, and Strange Meeting.
