Collaboration in educational settings has been shown to "contribute positively to the development of other skills like problem solving, creativity, and critical thinking" (Shurmann et. al 2023). It's important to recognize that collaboration isn't just working in groups with an intention of division of labour for an assignment or assessment. Bedwell et. al (2012) emphasize that "having a shared goal (to solve a problem) is an important characteristic of collaboration and often the reason for working together".

Encouraging play in a post-secondary setting is challenging. It's important to remember that “play is not just physical interaction” not is it "only about playing games”. Rather we can think of play as “engaging in social interactions and interacting with playful thoughts” (Leather et. al 2020)
