By: Nicola Yoon

EVERYTHING EVERYTHING is about a girl who has a disease called severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), also known as "bubble baby disease". She falls in love with a guy named Olly. She ran away with Olly, even though she is not allowed to leave her house, she leaves without her mother knowing. After she gets to Hawaii, she gets VERY sick and goes back to her house with her mom. Later she finds out that her mother told her all her life that she had SCID because she never got over her husband and son's deaths. Maddy has multiple relationships in the book, like her and her mom, Maddy and Carla, Maddy and Olly.

By: Alex Gino

GEORGE is about a transgender fourth-grader. George may have been born in a boy's body, but she knows she's really a girl. For example, when her class stages Charlotte's Web, she wants to audition for Charlotte, not a boy's part. She gets teased by boys in class ("You're such a freak. You're a freak. Freak. Freak") but finds amazing support in her best friend, Kelly, and in her older brother. But what will her mother say when Gorge gets the courage to tell her she's a girl named Melissa? I included this because it is another book about finding yourself =. So I think it shows off some qualities that show similarities as to Everything Everything.

By: Jacqueline Woodson

BROWN GIRL DREAMING is a memoir in verse that depicts Jaqueline Woodson growing up in different places during a unique time in American history. She's born in Ohio, to which her father's family traces a proud lineage, but raised in the South, where she encounters the sweetness of life with grandparents as well as the sting of Jim Crow. She moves back to the North and navigates a noisier place with hard edges and warm friends. How can she reconcile her different worlds? Will she be able to find her voice, not only so she can stand out but so she can make sense of the topsy-turvy world around her? I included this in my padlet because I read it and I think this book includes things about finding yourself.

Giraffes can't dance

By: Guy Parker-Rees

GIRAFFES CAN'T DANCE is about Gerald the giraffe who longs to dance, but his legs are too skinny and his neck is too long. His knees buckle whenever he tries to twirl. At the Jungle Dance, the warthog's waltz, the chimps cha-cha, and the lions tango. "Giraffes can't dance," they all jeer when it's Gerald's turn to prance. But there is one little creature who believes in Gerald. "Everything makes music," the cricket explains, "if you really want it to." So Gerald starts swaying to his own sweet tune. With light-footed rhymes and high-stepping illustrations, this tale is a gentle inspiration for every child with dreams of greatness. I included this in my padlet because I remember my mom reading this to me and me loving it. So I also think that it belongs in here.

By: Dr. Seuss

THE SNEETCHES AND OTHER STORIES is about how silly it is to be, well, silly. “The Sneetches,” “The Zax,” “Too Many Daves,” and “What Was I Scared Of?” make this energetic compilation a must-have for every library. Full of Dr. Seuss’s signature rhymes and unmistakable characters, it’s perfect for new and lifelong Seuss fans. I included this because I remember reading this as a little girl and taking it with me to preschool. And I also think that it shows off some things that could be helpful in explaining Everything Everything.

By: Lauren Daigle

YOU SAY is about the first time the involving expectation can just leave you kind of questioning your identity. When writing “You Say,” it was definitely the first moment in just being an artist that she was like Okay, where is all this going exactly? And it was one of those moments where she could see where things were going and she knew exactly where she came from, and she needed those worlds to still be married. Thus brought up the issue of identity and trying to figure out how to exist when I felt like so many things were pulling me in so many different directions. And so this song for me was just a reminder of identity. It was a reminder that I know when I’m weak, He’s strong—so how do I change that and bring that into my everyday life? I included this because if you listen to the lyrics really closely you will hear some similarities in Everything Everything in You say.

Free-spirited Sam and her stepbrother Patrick help Charlie discover the joys of friendship, first love, music and more, while a teacher sparks Charlie's dreams of becoming a writer. However, as his new friends prepare to leave for college, Charlie's inner sadness threatens to shatter his newfound confidence.
