I am concerned that one of the things about this re-design has been the minimization of the social sciences in GenEd. We’ve been talking about the importance of analyzing and understanding systemic patterns of various forms of social and political inequalities, and yet one of the upshots of the redesign has been the removal of core courses from the disciplines that do this kind of work most explicitly—namely Anthropology, (social) Geography, Sociology, and Political Science—from the left column of the curriculum. Why have students take two natural science or Quantitative courses rather than a social science?
