Many models, CMIP is an incredibly rich archive. 

Bad:
1) not the tool itself, it is about the data, archiving the data and downloading the data; how to keep/use the data, comsuming the computer storage to keep the data, ()
2) some data user has difficulty even downloading data,
3) archive is so huge, so many different models, while users have specifc needs, how accurate the products are, 
4) initial barriers, certain level of research infrastructure, need for easier source ensemble means,

Many regional communities of researchers focus on particular tools and aren't even aware of other tools in use by other communites.
ARR: A comparison of tools might be helpful in breaking down the silos referenced by FW.
SB: I agree. An overview about existing tools might be also good for us to start a discussion about the usefulnes/pros and cons of certain tools. JCB - Performance of different parameters for different regions for different models - Users could benefit from tools that provide region-specific evaluation
RT - I agree with JCB proposition: a model "classification" tool is useful to select the model which work best for each application (depending on the processes and regions studied)
ARR - Second JCB.  Particularly with respect to transitioning the model results to applicaitons, it would be useful to have regional evaluations to help determine which models to use in the application.

ARR - It seems there is also a gap in awareness of all the possible evaluation tools. We could work on having a centralized place for listing those, as well as a comparison about what is required to use each (and maybe even pros and cons).
