In the Netherlands and Southern Louisiana people have created methods to help stop flooding, since part of the land is below sea level. Polar's and dike's were made to help stop the water from coming to land in the Netherlands. Other options are being used in Louisiana.  Louisiana also came up with a stronger option to hold water after hurricane Katrina flood the southern part.  

We adjust to the land, this is called possibilism. We are able to do certain activities depending on the climate and area of land. If your in mountains you can go skiing. You can't go skiing in a desert. We also depend on the land for farming.
