In the novel, the Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald there are numerous nefarious characters that prioritize their wealth over their morality. As seen within the last chapter, no character, in particular Daisy, delivered a eulogy at Gatsby's funeral, simply because they could not face the truth. To elaborate, Daisy was responsible for Methyl's death but allowed for the blame to be placed upon Gatsby. This was because she did not have any credence and did not want to be charged with a crime and lose her lavish lifestyle.

The most important characters within The Great Gatsby are Nick, Gatsby, Daisy, and Tom. Within the beginning of the book, Gatsby is seen as very mysterious person who seems to live a utopian life, however it is soon evinced that Gatsby has an overwhelming love for Daisy. This evolves into an unhealthy relationship between the two characters, with Nick decrying this obsession that Gatsby feels. Towards the end of the book, Daisy's nefarious nature is exhumed when she killed Myrtle, and left Gatsby to take the blame. The distraught husband of Myrtle, Michealis eventually kills Gatsby in cold blood, with Tom and Daisy leaving it all behind to move on with their lives. Nick evaluates their characters as feckless people who cavort around, leaving everyone else to clean their mess.
