But will a women's pro sports league ever stand on its own?" (Clarke). This article talks about the myths surrounding women's sports and argues that women's sports, like soccer cannot financially stand alone. The women's soccer league is funded by other soccer associations, and cannot make enough money on its own.

"It’s [issue] with the federation, and its history of treating us as if we should be happy that we are professional players and not working in the kitchen or scrubbing the locker room.

The fact that women are being mistreated financially is, sadly, not a breaking news story. It goes on in every field." (Lloyd). Co-Captain of the US Women's soccer team, Carli Llyod, shares her thoughts on the federation in an article she wrote. She talks about the clear disparities between women and men in soccer and the revenue the bring in, versus the salary they get out. Carli emphasizes that these disparities present a dated opinion of what type of role women should play in society and hinder the growth of women in professional sports.

"A lot of people didn’t realize the history of this team and what we’ve had to fight for,” Lloyd says. “When I first joined the team in 2005, they were fighting for salaries, healthcare, pregnancy leave—basic stuff.” Like many American women, the players had their own struggles with equal pay, fair treatment, maternity leave, and other issues that are as endemic in the United States as they are disheartening" (Murray). Murray's book involves stories from players and gives background to the history of pay in the women's soccer team. This is a quote from co-captain, Carli Llyod, describing the various struggles the team has had with the federation. The wage gap in women's soccer not only affects the athletes, but women around the world facing gender discrimination. It only slows the growth towards an equal society for women and men
