Basically, water, air and soil are three natural resources that we cannot live without.

These three resources can be classified under the components of environment that are polluted ; water, air and soil pollution respectively.
Based on my opinion , the most important control measures should be soil pollution. It is also true that air and water should be taken seriously because it is the need for human being and other living things.

On the other hand, based on my point of view, most air and water pollution are contributed from the wrong used on land. For example, the previous cases about the leaking of pollutant from nuclear electric generating station. The pollutants are mostly transfer further through air and a wide buffer zone are in danger. This is because polluted water is more dangerous than polluted air and soil. Polluted water contain bacterial hazards which harm our health. However, it is our environment who is suffering from the comfort technology has brought us. Cars, factories and automobiles release hazardous gas causing air pollution that needs to be controlled.

Because of the increase in demand of goods, the supply from manufacturing companies has to catch up. New factories are built so we can achieve self-sufficiency. These factories have become the major source of outdoor air pollution in urban areas and have been regulated to do air pollution control. The air coming from the factories contains substances known as air pollutants harmful to humans and the environment. Pollutants can be classified into two: primary and secondary. Primary pollutants are those emitted directly through the process. Examples of which are the ashes from a volcanic eruption, carbon monoxide gas released by a motor vehicle and the sulfur dioxide coming from factories. Secondary are air pollutants emitted indirectly. They are formed when primary react or interact in the air.

There are primary pollutants produced by human activity. Sulfur oxide is produced largely through coal burning. It comes in volcanoes and in various industrial processes. Carbon monoxide is an odorless, colorless but very poisonous gas. It is created by incomplete combustion of fuel such as natural gas, coal or wood. Nitrogen oxide is emitted directly by automotives. It is considered as one of the most prominent air pollutants. Volatile Organic Compounds or VOCs are highly reactive organic compounds. It is categorized into methane and non-methane. Methane contributes to global warming. Other hydrocarbon VOCs are significant greenhouse for their ability in creating ozone and in prolonging the life of methane in the atmosphere. Particulate matters are ash, dust and salt particles that when breathed in can cause health hazards such as heart disease and lung cancer. Secondary pollutants include sulfuric acid H2SO4 that can cause respiratory problems and nitrogen oxide that gives air a brownish coloration.

Air pollution coming from factories and automobiles is something we can not set aside. Every business must have an air pollution control to prevent them from deteriorating what is left to our world.

Living organisms cannot survive without breathing in a day but they can live without drinking in one day. How importantly the air does compare to water.

Especially the seasonal haze that will happen in Malaysia every year, the authorities will be inform the citizens at the earliest time as possible. The facemask and N95 respirators help to protect wearer from airborne particles contaminating face and filtrate the airborne particles. The elderly and the children easy to get sick during air polluted environment.

For water pollution, the identification of pollution source hard to track and
may take time. For instance, the effluent from factory had pollute the river nearby; the polluted water seep into soil, hence contaminate the groundwater. Hence, the water treatment play important role as preventative and reduction of water pollution.

For soil pollution, the source may be seen from mining activities, agricultural, heavy metals leachate from solid waste and so on. The control measure is specify depend on the cause and effect. Such as the disposal of waste should handle properly to prevent the sewage seep into the soil and hence affect the water quality too.

Water pollution, air pollution followed by soil solution.
Water pollution is caused by flowing of untreated effluent into river stream. It has significant effect to the entire biosphere of plants and organisms living in or has contact with these water bodies. In almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities. When human consume untreated water, an adverse effect will be shown immediately. The effects may be lethal. Water-borne diseases contribute a lot to the rate of mortality.

Air pollution caused by the harmful particles emitted into the atmosphere accounts for the disease in respiratory system. These diseases will cause a prolonged effect, but it is not lethal.

Soil pollution shows the slowest reaction. It does not harm the human directly, therefore it is ranked at the last.

With the inhale of air pollutants, human beings and animals will have adverse effects to their health, or even cause fatal. In term of science, the diffusion rate of air is higher as compare to liquid and solid. Therefore, the pollutants in air are able to transmit faster than the pollutant in water and soil as well.

In 2008 Blacksmith Institute World's Worst Polluted Places Report, indoor air pollution and poor urban air quality are listed as two of the world's worst toxic pollution problems. Moreover, according to the 2014 World Health Organization report, air pollution in 2012 caused the deaths of around 7 million people worldwide.

This is because, air is easily polluted by industries (VOCs), vehicles(CO), open burning (Pm) and for certain place, volcanoes (NH3). Im giving you the fact that most pollutants that cause the air pollution can't be supervise by the authorities which differentiate water and soil pollution. In other hand, water pollution can be supervise based on its physical properties likes turbidity, taste and color. Which mean, a kid also can differentiate between clean water and polluted water. They can't differentiate the air if it was polluted.

If you ask me, my humble opinion should be all of elements (air, water and soil) should be the first thing to measure and control. Because, those elements related to each other. See diagram below. They relate to each other.

The reason why I choose air pollution be the most important control measure is the human body uses air in several ways. Without it we wouldn't be able to live. Such as breathing in oxygen. Air supplies the oxygen to our lungs which circulates through our bodies to combine with sugars in the food we eat to give us energy and to build tissues.
Moreover, air can help regulating temperature. The air around us helps to keep us warm. In the absence of any heat in the air, our bodies lose heat quickly. If we are working hard or exercising we generate excess hear. The air provides some cooling to help the body maintain an ideal temperature of 37 degrees celcius.
In addition, air also can exhaling waste. Oxygen is primarily combined with carbon in our bodies to produce carbon dioxide which is exhaled. Other trace gases are exhaled including a little methane and water vapor. The water vapor is not really a waste product like co2 or methane.
Lastly, air also can transmitting sound. Our sense of hearing relies on sound energy being transmitted through the air. Without air, no sound would reach to our ears.
