The author used words that helped me feel the emotion the boy was feeling. Pax and Peter have a strong connection because Pax could sense everything the boy felt. Pax knew something was wrong by the way Peter was acting - he was crying. They must have been friends for a long time because Pax knew so much about the different ways Peter reacted in different situations. They had a favorite game they liked to play together, too. I don't know why Peter must release Pax yet. Peter's father is making him release Pax to the wild. I wonder if they are moving to a new place and Pax cannot move with them. Peter must let Pax go because his dad might be moving into a big city and in big city's foxes aren't used as pet's or maybe the people that they used to live next to think that the fox is a wild animal and then they called the cops and the cops told them to get rid of the fox or maybe the fox kept on killing the wildlife there and someone called animal patrol.
p.s. If you have a wild animal that won't kill you you should keep it because it could really protect you.
