What has the biggest effect on a character's evolution: the tragic experience, the people that interact with the character while in the recovery stage, or the character's inner conflict on how to recover from the tragedy. Please give examples from the book to support your response

The biggest effect on a character's evolution is the people that interact with the character while in the recovery stage. An example from the book is when Mrs. Flowers takes Marguerite "under her wing" and helps her become herself again. She has an impact also on how much interaction Marguerite has with others. Mrs. Flowers tells her that talking is really the only way to communicate amongst each other and that that is what separates humans from other animals (Angelou 98).

The biggest factor is the people that interact with the character while in the recovery stage. The people surrounding the character, help him or her out and give suggestions on how to recover from his or hers tragic experience. The character learns from the whole experience and it really changes the perspectives of the character. In the story, Mrs. Flowers help Maya be who she really is and helps her find her true meaning. “I was liked… I was respected not as Mrs. Henderson’s grandchild or Baileys sister but for being Marguerite Johnson”. (Angelou pg 101) Mrs. Flowers brought Maya out of her breaking point and it was very important help to allow Maya to evolve and mature from the tragic experience.
