FORMAL EXPECTATIONS AND FEELINGS

Class Activity / Production #2:

Students will work in groups or by themselves (it is strongly urged that students work in groups in order to involve themselves in and gain a more profound understanding of film’s collaborative nature) to produce a 1-2 minute short film that vivifies our studies of film’s formal expectations and film’s use of form and feeling, including how film incorporates “perverseness” to heighten a work’s thematic resonance and commentary on the human psyche and how easily and subconsciously one’s psyche can be manipulated.

· The film should be in narrative form and focus on an event or scenario that makes the viewer “side with,” root for, cheer for, or pity someone whose actions would be deemed ethically wrong if witnessed in absence of the camera lens

· Each film will involve the use of cinematic means (photography, motion, sound) that undermine a viewer’s formal expectations and cause unrest and or uneasiness due to the distortion of what “should follow.”

· Films are to be edited, locked, uploaded to YouTube, and then posted to the designated Padlet page for viewer and peer critique.
