         <title>Day 1: 18 February 2019 (Monday)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Me and my Friends arrived at Meritus Pelangi Resort and Spa, Langkawi at 11.30 am. On this day, we sign up for our internship program with Mr. Barsham Naidu the Trainee Manager here.<br><br>We were left at staff cafeteria for a while to have our lunch while Mr. Barsham managing our registration.<br>An Employee Personal Data form were filled up as reference for Human Resource Department. <br><br>After having our lunch, we were asked to get to the Linen Room accompanied by Mr. Barsham. There, we were fitting for our uniform to be wear during working hours. 3 pairs of uniform were given to each of us.<br><br>When we done with our uniform fitting. Mr. Barsham brought us for a short visit at the back ouf the house. he showed to us the :<br>- ICT Office<br>- Finance Office<br>- F&amp;B Office<br>- Pastry Kitchen<br>- Main Kitchen <br>- Housekeeping room.<br>and we were taught about  how to use the punch card machine for our working hours check in n check out.<br><br>we were introduced to some personnel such as Mr. Mussaidi who have a lot of experience and as our reference for any matters regarding Front Office (FO). Mr. Izam who in charge for Beverage managment such as Bars. Mr. Praba - The Front Office Manager (FOM). <br><br>After the short visit to the offices we were brought to our hostel located next to the resort. we cleaned the room and unpack our luggages. <br><br>We were told by Mr. Basham that our orientation will be starting on the next day (tuesday).<br><br>Outcome :<br>As told by Mr. Basham, our looks and appearance are important, must be kept clean and tidy.<br>Discipline is a must (we are not allowed to be late at work)<br>Since we will be in charge at Front office and F&amp;B department, it involve direct contact with customers. therefore, we need to have knowledge about the product and anything regarding what is happening around our working environment.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Today All trainee from different school were called to have an eight hours orientation talk. We started at 9 in the morning, end at around 4-5pm. The orientation program was organised by our Trainee Manager, Mr Basham Naidu.<br><br>This orietation started with a short ice breaking activity among trainee. <br><br>All Trainee were introduced to almost all Head Of Department (HOD), and were showed about the information regarding the company's stakeholder/shareholder and other related important party . <br><br>In this orientation, we were given a set of printed slide containing information in deep regarding the product offers by the resort such as<br><br>- number and type of rooms<br>- F&amp;B Outlet<br>- facilities: Gym, Pool and Recreation<br>- Operation Hour of each facilties and outlet<br><br>Apart from that, we were also explained about grooming and attire code during working hour.<br><br>After the lunch hour, all trainee were brought to have a walk around the resort so that we can all see the facilties in the resort.<br><br>Outcome :<br>1. Product Knowledge. I know and understand about the product offers by the resort. It is important to those who working in lodging sector to the product first because it will able to help promoting the resort's product.<br>2. Bonding. The orientation create bond between trainee that will be working together regardless either they are working in same department or not. good relationship among wokers, created positive working environment.<br>3. First impression is important. A smart and tidy grooming and attire bring positive impression by guest. It reflect the resort image. therefore it is important for all the members of the organisation to show a favourable outlook.<br><br><br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Day 3: 20 February 2019 (Wednesday)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Me and other trainee assemble at the Human Resource Office at 9 in the morning before we were brought to our department/outlet by Mr. Basham.<br><br>I was assigned to be working under Food and Beverage Department (F&amp;B) at an outlet called <strong>Cba </strong>starting from<strong> 20 February 2018 until 14 April 2019. </strong>Cba is a beachside bar provide both food and beverage to guest. Basically all the menu are western menu.<br><br>The operation of Cba are as below:<br><strong>8:00am - 11:00am</strong> - Breakfast Buffet<br><strong>11:00am - 6:00pm </strong>- Ala Carte Lunch Menu<br><strong>4:00pm - 7:00pm</strong> - Tapas<br><strong>7:00pm - 10:30pm </strong>- Dinner <br><strong>10:30pm - 1am</strong> - Drink only<br><br>At first, I was introduced to Mr. Qayyum (Mr. Q) a senior peronnel working at the bar. I was explained by Mr. Q regarding my job scope as a waiter. During breakfast, it is a buffer breakfast. basically what i need to do are clear the table when the guest finished their food and set back the table as the other guest will come in. <br><br>Entering the lunch hour (11am) i was explained by Mr. Q about the menu offers at the bar and I was taught about how to take order and pass the order to the bartender and kitchen. <br><br>I was introduced to <strong>Mr. Kuan Yew</strong> the Cba manager. Basically Mr. Kuan Yew taught me about my job scope as explained by Mr. Q.<br><br>My shift end at 5pm.<br><br>Outcome :<br>1. I learnt about how the system is work. Get myself familiar with the surrounding and the working system. <br>2. Product offers at the outlet. I knew in deep about the product such as food and beverage offers at the bar which one of the outlet in the resort.<br>3. How job assigment really work in real life compared to what I have learnt theoritically in campus. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My shift started at 10am and finished at 6pm. after an hour my shift start, we start clearing the breakfast buffet and setting the table for lunch.<br><br>Throughout my day, i have met lot of guest / tourist from different country and background. I served them as learned before, give them the menu, suggest food and drink that suit with their taste, take order and pass the order to the kitchen n bartender. <br><br>Sometime I had a short conversation with guest that asked about the resort facilities and Langkawi as well.<br><br>Outcome:<br>1. I have learned to build my confident in communicating with foreigner, create a good relationship with guest so that they will feel welcome and happy with the service provided.<br>2. I learned about some menu that is not suitable with some people that come from different part of this world which is important for those who are working in F&amp;B sector.</div>]]></description>

         <title>Day 5: 22 February 2019 (Friday)</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Today my shift start at 10am.<br>Basically, my task are setting the table, take order and clear the table when guest finish eating. <br><br>Today, I start do the linen with one of the staff name Ikmal. Any type of linen including, table cloth, napkin, and other linen used for dinner from the previous night need to be send to the linen room. <br><br>Any linen sent to the room must be count every single piece and well record it in a log book. New linen will be taken and bring back to the bar, the taken linen must be record as well.<br><br>Around 4/5pm I with my collegue start setting the table for dinner. the table setting include,<br>-white table cloth<br>-cutleries<br>-napkin<br>-candle<br><br>A short briefing was held before end of my shift. Basically, the manager will explain about number off booked table, and job assignment for dinner. <br><br>My shift end at six.<br><br>Outcome:<br>1. I have learnt that inventory record is important. every in and out item from the outlet must be recorded because inventory checking is important.<br>2. I have learnt how to set the table for fine dining accordingly. neatness is important because it reflect the resort image.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Same Like yesterday, my shift start at 10 in the morning. This day we have a lot of guest having breakfast plus the we have a group of 45 person with full board guest from Asian Trail Portugal ( The BMW Group).<br><br>I was reminded by the Cba Manager Mr. Kuan Yew and Irene (the embassador for Cba) that any guest that come in with orange wristband must be served with different menu from usual. For lunch, they should have a full course lunch starting from Appetizer until dessert. <br><br>The group will be here until end of february.<br><br>Outcome:<br>1. Settle the task one by one and make sure everything perfectly. As the there are many guest in house, it is important to make sure that everything is done perfectly.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My shift start at 10 in the morning until 6 in the evening as usual.<br><br>I worked about 1 hour for breakfast that ended at 11am, and the rest of the hour which is 11am until 6pm is for lunch hour and snack.<br><br>Throughout my day, I faced few guest who gave comment about the food and some feedback to improve it. <br><br>When we got any comment or complaint regarding the service, food, drink, etc.. we then have to suggest them any other food that could be fit with their taste. Offer them something that can bring pleasure to them.<br><br>Outcome:<br>1. I have learnt how to deal with guest's complaint and improve the service. I start to learn how to communicate and dealing with guest who sometime in angry or moody when the didn't get what they expect.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"How To Improve Time of Serving Food and Beverage"<br><br>Today I worked in the evening shift, starting from 5pm until 1am. My shift start with one hour rest (5pm-6pm). at 6pm, when all the staff already there, we start the shift with a short briefing by Irene. She explained about the number of reserved table and some specific request from the guest.<br><br>Overall, the bar can be devided into 5 section which are section A, B, C, D, and E. Irene then assigned all the staff. I was in charged for the sofa (in D section)<br><br>Mostly, the sofa area will be seated by guest who prefer only to have drink especially while waiting for sunset and after dinner until midnight.<br><br>Everyday, we discussed one topic from the training form. As for today, the topic is about:<br>"How To Improve Time of Serving Food and Beverage"<br><br>Outcome: <br>1. I have learnt to worked effciently and effectively in serving guest.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>My Shift start at 5pm until 1am.<br><br>After the break hour, at 6pm all staff assemble and having a short briefing regarding the job assigment. I was assigned at the sofa area.<br><br>The guest start slowing down entering the outlet when the dinner hour end at 10.30pm.<br>starting from 10.30pm until 12.30, the guest came just for having drink.<br><br>Meanwhile, the staff including me have to set up the table and the bar for breakfast on the next day. <br><br>Last call were made at 12.30 and then we start clearing all the glasses left by guest at all section.<br><br>My shift end at 1am.</div>]]></description>

For dinner, a napkin will be fold into rectangle shape in will be put in between knife (right side) and fork (left side) and a BB plate placed next to the fork.<br><br>When the guest sit, I have to unfold the napkin, make ot triangle in shape and place it on the guest lap.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Today, my shift start at 5pm until 1am as usual.<br><br>At this moment, I am not really familiar with some of the food and beverage offers at the bar. There was a little bit dificulties for me to take order and answer any question from guest regarding food and beverage. <br><br>Therefore whenever I have a chance, I take time to study the menu.<br><br>Outcome:<br>1. Well understand and well know about the product offers by the bar is important because most guest will ask for suggestion, and some of them might ask about alternative food they can have especially when the guest is allergic or vegetarian person. </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>"How to Unfold Napkin: Service Sequence"<br><br>Today my shift start at 5pm and end at 1am.<br>Overall, base on the training form, the practice today is about the service sequence.<br><br>In F&amp;B, the service start at the front of the outlet with a Hostess get a table for guest. The waiter then seated the guest and unfold the napkin, maki it triangle in shape and then place the napkin on the guest lap.<br><br>After that, the waiter have to give the menu book to the guest, take the guest order and past the captain order to the kitchen, cashier and bartender.<br><br>Their order then will be serve course by course starting from appetizer, soup, main course, and dessert.<br><br>Make sure the the guest sign their check or settle their bill before leaving.<br><br>Overall, I have learnt in deep about a proper fine dining service sequence..</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>Today I learnt about how to take out the inventory base on the listed item necessary in the bar. <br><br>I assisted Ikmal the senior staff to pick up several item. basically, all the item taken must only base on the listed item signed by the bar manager, any in and out item must be recorded.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Today, my shift start at 10am and end at 6pm. However I need to stay back for overtime as the bar will be having a function.<br><br>The dinner were handled by Mr Lon and assist by a senior staff name Aiman or also known as Abang Jo. <br><br>At 7pm I went to the beachfront, fold few napkin, light up the candle, and fill the goblet with water. around 8pm the guest start coming having their dinner.<br><br>I was assigned by Mr Lon to clear the table whenever the guest finish eating. around 11pm, the guest start leaving the venue.<br><br>Then..Me, Abang Jo and Mr Lon start clearing all the set up. All stuff were stored in a store room. Everything is settle at 1am.<br><br>Outcome:<br>1. I have learn about teamwork. If together we do it, then everything become easier and settle fast. 😊</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"How To Recover Guest Complaint"<br><br>Base on the training form topic this day we were discussing about the way to recover guest complaint. According to what was explained by Mr. Lon<br><br>It is a nature in service sector to get complaint from guest because different people come with different perspective. <br>Particularly in F&amp;B, the cause of complaint my be vary. <br><br>Some people getting mad due to a long waiting time for their food. Some might get moody because their food is not as expected. Hungry make the feeling even more worst.<br><br>Therefore, there are few way/step to recover their complaint:<br>1. Start with a sincere apologize to the guest. State that you're really sorry for what had happened.<br>2. Offer them something as a return to cheer them up or to cool them down. some offer can be made are:<br>- free drink since they are waiting for too long<br>- offer to change to a new food if what they are having is not met with their taste.<br>3. Speak politely.<br><br>base on this discussion today and with my real experience at the bar, I have learnt a lot in handling  and recover guest complaint. :)</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>"How To Setup Cutleries According to Food Order"<br><br>Based on the training form topic, today I have learnt about how to set up the cutleries base on the food ordered by guest.<br><br>Usually the table was set with a pair of table knife and table fork along with bb plate and a napkin. However when the guest order food that not necessary to use knife like the pasta, we need to change the knife with table spoon. Plus, when the guest order dessert, it must be served along with dessert fork.<br><br>Apart from that, the cutleries set up for romantic dinner is different from the usual set up. The table for romantic dinner have complete set of cutleries starting from the Appetizer fork, soup spoon, main course (usually using the steak knife and table fork) and dessert fork as well. <br><br>This topic, make me learnt more about setting up a fine dining table. <br><br></div>]]></description>

Before this, I do not know how to use the device and it became a problem for me because whenever I bring the bill and the guest want to pay by card, then I need to look for a senior staff to it for me. So, the guest have to wait once again.<br><br>Gratefully, tonight I was taught by Hafizi (Gee, the bartender) about how to use the device. And now I know how to use it.. I have learned about the important of giving offer/discount to customer in running business.<br>- in this resort, during low occupancy, the sales will be dropped plus, not all in house guest will have their breakfast, lunch, dinner at the hotel outlet, some of them prefer to dine outside. therefore, by giving them discount or voucher, this will encourage guest to dine at the resort's outlet instead of going out. discount give customers value. this will prevent the sales from keep on dropping.
