The "Titans" were one of America's main sparks for her strife of being number one in the world. The strife was not only in industry, but for unity and nationalism. Before the "Titans" came to power, America was in shambles from the aftermath of the Civil War, and then young entrepreneurs started to find their name in America and help restore her back into her glory. 2) I believe that the railroad industry was the most important industry. Before and after the Civil War, railroads became essential for traveling, shipping supplies, and to transport soldiers to defend the United States. Vanderbilt not only created a monopoly, but he expanded the industry all throughout most of the Northeast and part of the South and Midwest. Without Vanderbilt, Rockefeller may not have had his "big break" to become the most powerful man in America, thus, may have prevented the other "Titans" to be unsuccessful. 3) The men's tactics were both genius and unethical. The tactics were genius because they were able to produce the most profits and products, more than any other country in the world. They were unethical because the people who worked for the men were working in unsanitary conditions, dying on the job, and barely living on the salaries. From the policies of the working conditions, many workers went on strike or did something radical until there was improvement. 4) Rockefeller gained a step on Vanderbilt when he decided to stop stocking Vanderbilt's trains and built his oil pipe. J. P. Morgan gained a step when he bought Carnegie's steel corporation to increase profit and fame. Vanderbilt gained a step on his competitors when he shut down the Albany bridge, cutting off supply to the industries his competitors needed. Today, there are many competitors that will try to outbid, produce more, and try to outwit others in order to make the most profit. For example: any professional sports team, because teams battle for players and advantages. 5) Any computer or phone business. Computers are becoming essential for everyday life. Examples being education, holding private information, and to spread news around the globe. Phones have become dominant over the past century and growing. Morgan, Carnegie, and Rockefeller) are responsible for helping create the America we know today. With their ingenuity and insight, they saw problems and found solutions to them that others did not. They made leaps of faith to attain those solutions that others less daring would have been extremely wary of. Even when their world seemed to be crashing down around them, they remained persistent. When competitors would try to take some of their "glory", they would snuff them out with ruthlessness not different to that of a lion catching its prey.... 3.) I believe that their tactics to be the most powerful is their industries were both genius and unethical because they took risks and thought of things others did not, but they were cruel to their workers and did not seemed to care who they used as stepping stones to reach the top.... 4.) A) Rockefeller one-upped Vanderbilt (the railroad monopoly) by creating a pipe system to transport his own oil. B) Rockefeller one-upped Carnegie by buying a large iron deposit and selling the minerals gathered from it at rock bottom price to Carnegie's competitors. C) Vanderbilt one-upped his competitors by shutting down the bridge he owned that went into New York, so he forced them all out of business allowing him to own them all (practically).... 5.) The main industry that I see changing is the energy industry. I think that the use of plasma power will increase in the future because it is very efficient and powerful. Rockefeller, Carnegie, J.P Morgan, Vanderbilt and Ford used their intelligence to create an empire, empire which would give to them power and wealth. But they had to compete to be the richest men in America, there also has been big inequalities during rich and poor during this period.
2- J.P Morgan's because it's the one that lit up America but he also had the Steel part. 
3- They were both because to earn that much money, they had to be genius, being the chief of a company is a very hard work. But had the same time, they had no respect for the workers which is not respectable. 
4- They found their own market, they competed like no others and Ford had this incredible way to run a company by respecting the workers. We can take Apple and Microsoft, they innovate all the time so that can still be number 1. It's also a very big competition between those two companies. 
5- Some electric car companies are emerging, they are as good as normal cars, and they stop wasting gas, and make the planet healthier, which can be life-changing for the following years.

Not to be a stickler Hugo, but the instructions say that each response has to be at least 3 sentences, besides that, I agree with your answers, especially question 4, Ford did help spark that idea of improvement that is still used today and helped gain national recognition.

They built America to be amazing and magnificent. Vanderbilt did a wonderful job building the railroads and spreading it across America.  Rockefeller built standard oil to help people see and later on brings gasoline for cars and it’s amazing how much Rockefeller did. Carnegie built the steel business from the ground up and was magnificent at being an owner and helping people the people in the world by building bridges. And Morgan built electricity up wonderfully, and was sometimes horrible to people.

 2. Which industry do you believe was most important? Defend your answer. I think the railroad industry because if we didn’t have the railroad we wouldn’t be able to transport items.  Way back then people wouldn’t be able to travel. The trains transported oil for Rockefeller to get to other places.

 3. What is your opinion of these men's tactics to be the most powerful in their industries? Were the genius, unethical, or both? Explain your answer. I think some of them could have treated their workers better.  I think it’s both, because there were only two people who thought of their workers and some of them didn’t think of the economy.

4. Explain 3 examples of the instances where the "Men Who Built America" one-upped their competition. Also, provide an example of how that happens in today's society.   One example is when Vanderbilt works with his competitor against Rockefeller so all the trains are going against the oil industry. The trains go against the other industries. Another example Rockefeller builds a pipeline to transport his oil, and now a days people do that with transporting goods and find another way to transport them. Another example is Carnegie one ups Rockefeller by increasing his steel company by building buildings instead of railroads, in today’s world if you’re not making  money with one company you go to the other one and make money with the other.

5. Do you see any new industries emerging that will drastically change our way of life in today's society?  
Yes, medical marijuana it’s helping sick people all over the world.  It helps people with PTSD, ADHD, etc.

I agree when you say that they are both genius and unethical. I also like all your examples on question 4. I just think that horrible is a big word to qualify Rockefeller, Carnegie... they didn't respect the workers at all but they are also at the same times one of the reasons that this country is one of the most powerful nowadays.

1. Powerful, Smart, Insightful, Challenged, and Headstrong. These men faces several challenges among each other and from other things but they were powerful because they overcame their challenges and basically shaping America. They were all smart and insightful they saw a future and went for it. They took something that was so small and made it into something for everyone. They saw this and made it into a reality and then when it was threatened they were smart and found a loop.  They were also very headstrong and stubborn. They saw what they wanted and didn’t let anything or anyone stop them. 

2. I think steel because steel built more buildings and gave people a place to live and work. Steel also improved all the other innovations. There wasn’t really any competition for steel either so steel could improve lots of things without getting in the way. 

3. Both. Their talent for seeing opportunities where other see nothing is a great tactic to have. It was genius because it helped develop America and the people were better for it. However some of their tactics they used to develop their companies were super unethical. 

4. When Rockefeller built the pipeline so he wouldn’t have to rely on the railroad for his oil transportation. When Rockefeller started and iron company and then started selling it to steel buyers. When Vanderbilt shut down part of the railroad and then bought all of their stock so he owned almost all the railroads in the US.

5. News on the internet VS. The newspaper. A lot more people have phones and iPads and find it easier to see the news right away rather than wait for the paper to come out. And with blogs and things like blogs that’s like a 24/7 Ask column that you can write for free or can look up in seconds.

1. To describe "The Men Who Built America" is quite amusing. They are all honorable, ruthless (at times), visionaries, competitive, and greedy.
 "The Men Who Built America" are all quite the same, they had the drive to do anything for their company. Even though they were the visionaries of our nation, they became blind and greedy for power. They all wanted to be on the top. At times they became ruthless to the point that whoever was in their way shall die or pay. But the amazing thing is that at the end they are honorable men who wanted to make a difference in this world and they did. They built the very foundation of this nation.
 2. I believe that the most important industry would be the railroad industry because it pave the way for other industry to grow. Without the railroad other industry would not have the transportation that people needed and wouldn't be able to provide a way to the West. Without the railroad I believe there wouldn't be any thought of being the richest man alive.
 3. The tactic was quite fascinating, because it was very risky and quite dangerous. They may not be ethical but no one was there to enforce the law and it was a genius way to stay on top. I think this because it worked but it killed people in the process.
4. When Carnegie sold his steel company to Morgan and he became the richest men alive. When Rockefeller beat Vanderbilt by not supplying Vanderbilt oil. When Vanderbilt became the richest man alive.
5. I think that high technology and Eco-friendly cars. Phones, Cars that are self drove, and robots. These industry is growing and growing no one is in its way.

Your word choice and explanations are quite accurate. I think the railroad was important but I'm pretty sure oil is still the most important. The railroad is still used but they are used to just transport oil and gasoline along with semis.

The problem with self-driving cars is human error in the making of them. I had to do a current event over them a few weeks ago, and the number of human caused mistakes was about 3-4 times higher than technology made mistakes. The few men that built the country were all extremely smart. They weren’t necessarily science smart, but money smart. In order to get any of their businesses going, they had to ruthless and push past any obstacles that were put in their way. Anyone who is ruthless is also extremely stubborn. No one can own a huge establishment without holding onto the rules that were set. These 5 or 6 men were very intimidating. Intimidation got the men what they wanted. They also had to be independent or it wouldn’t have been all theirs. Sharing didn’t get you very far. 

2. I feel that Standard Oil was the most important. Oil is still used in many different things today. Oil provided the most for everyone. Gasoline, kerosene, and oil are quite essential for everyday life. 

3. The men’s tactics were genius. Figuring out how to push out the competitors without any advice from older generations only comes from very smart and skillful people. 

4. Vanderbilt and Tom Scott allied together to force Rockefeller to back off of their railroads. Rockefeller decided to build a pipeline to transport his oil which took product away from the railroads and it caused them to struggle. In today’s society different semi companies compete to transport product across the U.S. J.P. Morgan used his money to force Westinghouse out of the electric company so that he would be able to own all of the electricity plants in America. In today’s society stock holders buy each other in order to earn more money. AC electric was able to supply more homes with electricity and at a lower price than DC electric. AC electric bid very low on everything in order to win. People at auctions start the bids at a lower price in order to slowly build the price up.

These men who built our nation were very intelligent and used this in their dealings. They used their cunning and determination to find their ways to wealth from humble beginning of nothing. They did not find their ways to riches with kindness. They were ruthless in their dealing. They were unwavering with their trades.

It is tough to say which of the industries is most important. I feel steel may be the most important. It was because of this steel that we were able to become so populous and advance faster. 

I think their tactics were ruthless and cruel, but effective nonetheless. In today's time their practices would be unlawful. At this time though, it was all acceptable.

A few examples of the men up-upping their competition is when Vanderbilt closed the bridge. Or when Rockefeller closed his refineries to mess with Tom Scott's business. Another is when Rockefeller bought the Iron mines to intimidate Carnegie. Even today people do things such as take control of certain assets to interfere with the competition.

I can't think of many emerging technologies, other than medical related ones, such as artificial limbs.

The group of men who built America were very determined to make money, and make it quick. They used their savage-ness to take down one-another on their way to the top at some point. Obviously they were daring, because some of them invested all the money they had at the time for an unknown reward. Menacing, because they were in the minds of the public, more than the minds of each other. They were clearly smart for the fact they knew how to make big money.

I believe the electric industry was the most important, because without it, you more than likely wouldn't be reading this.

In my opinion, i think some of the tactics were a little messed up. I think they should of all worked together, instead of working against each other. That way they could of made even more money, and came up with even more elaborate designs and schemes.

With out his oil and fuel then so many companies would not be able to run. His industry has always been successful and always will be.
3.) I believe that all of the men were genius. Yeah it may have been unethical but it was smart and worked extremely well. Plus it wasn't illegal at the time so there wasn't anything wrong with it at the time. 
4.) JP Morgan and Thomas Edison one upped Rockefeller by making the light bulb. Rockefeller one upped Vanderbilt by removing his oil from his trains and making pipes. Cell phone companies are always competing and making new deals to one up each other. 
5.)  Tesla is inventing new electrical cars and cars that can drive themselves. This will change the way things are transported.

1. Smart, Wealthy, Confident, Competitive and Ruthless. The men that built America were very smart because they knew how they would build their businesses from the ground up. Some of the men like John D. Rockefeller weren't always wealthy. He didn't grow up rich like J.P. Morgan did. But he eventually became the richest man in the country. Every one of these men were confident. They always knew they would be successful in whatever industry they had. Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie and Morgan were all very competitive. Three of them competed against each other for most of their lives just to be the most powerful man in the country. They were ruthless because they would have done anything just to keep their industries going. They risked a lot just to become rich and powerful.

2. I believe Carnegie Steel was the most important industry because his steel is what built America. If it wasn't for Carnegie we wouldn't have the tall building and other buildings that were made out of steel. 

3. Their tactics were genius because they made a lot of money.

4. Morgan one-upped Rockefeller with electricity, Rockefeller one-upped Vanderbilt with a different contract, and Carnegie one-upped Rockefeller by building the bridge. 

5. I don’t see any new emerging industries.

I do not think that they "knew" that they were gonna be successful. I think that in the beginning they had no clue what was gonna happen. Rockefeller was a good man and i agree that he created a good industry.

I don't think "wealthy" is a word to describe them because Rockefeller started as a poor man but i think hardworking would fit since they all had to do an excruciating amount of work to get where they were.
That's what I said Rockefeller wasn't wealthy when he was younger.

I Agree that steel was a very important thing in building this country. I do believe that oil was just as important though because many factories and homes relied on it. Both were equally as important.

They were cocky because they knew that no one could stop them and they could do whatever they wanted, whenever they wanted. They were savagely brutal. They would destroy peoples live by running them out of business and a job if it meant that they would be the lone person on top. 
2) Carnegie steel was hands down the most important industry. it made America model with the vertical revolution
3) Their tactics as brutal as they were they were absolutely genius. They made an extraordinary amount of money.
4) Rockefeller one-upped Carnegie by taking standard oil off the railroads which caused the death of tom Scott, Carnegie one-upped everyone with the modernization of America, J.P. Morgan one upped Rockefeller by replacing Kerosene with electricity
5) i don't believe any new industries will emerge for a while.

Genius, competitive, responsible, hard working, and greedy. Most of them were greedy, as money was their number one goal. With them being greedy, they were also competitive because they wanted to be the best and the richest. All were very smart and hard working because they took into consideration what they'd have to do and what risks they were putting themselves at by creating these businesses and also taking down other peoples businesses. 
2. Oil. It lit up many houses and also led to gasoline, which both are used on a daily bases.
3. Both. The fact that they created these industries from nothing is beyond amazing. It was also unethical because while they were getting tons of money, their workers were treated harshly with little pay and they did stupid things to take down the other industries.
4. Rockefeller used pipes instead of railroads which one upped Vanderbilt, Rockefeller bought the iron mine which one upped Carnegie, and Tesla one upped Morgan by using AC to power the world fair. 
5. Technology and medical finds aren't new, but the advancements that they've led to are helpful in so many ways.

They were brave by starting a completely new company with every bit of money they had and not knowing what will happen to them. 2)      The automotive industry, without Henry Ford showing that his business can be successful and still pay his workers a decent wage. We might still have to work long hours in dangerous conditions with little pay if it was not for Ford.
3)      They were genius, these people made America the best country at the time even if they had to overwork people, and it was for the better of the country. They saw an opportunity to be the best in the nation and they took it. They did not hesitate and that is why they are on top.
4)      Rockefeller building an oil pipeline to show that he did not need the railroad.

Greedy is definitely a valid point, but you have to be greedy in order to become a wealthy and powerful as these men were. Not only this, but greed is what drove these men to become great. Their genius and greed. is what set the foundation for modern America.

The bold men were so greedy they built industries just so their competition would have to buy it off of them for twice the price. These men decisively decided to buy out the companies around them and did so in a savage way ruining the industry with their ultimate rule. With their wits they were able to do so in such a way that it was bought with the minimum and made them the most profit.
2)      The railroad made it possible for steel, electricity, electricity poles, oil, and so many more products across the country. Although oil was made into pipes and sent around the country steel had to still be sent over by the railroad.
3)      These men used genius tactics and were ahead of their time. The laws had to form around them to take down there industries, I believe what they did could’ve been seen as unethical but at the time they did it, it was perfectly legal. Although I do believe watering down stocks is extremely unethical.
4)      When Rockefeller bought steel and planned to build a steel plant it forced Carnegie to buy it off of them. When Rockefeller decided he didn’t need to have his oil transported by train when he could send it through long distance pipes. Also when Rockefeller made gasoline and it was a necessity for cars to have.
5)      The phone industry is constantly on the rise and is making its way into every home throughout the united states as it makes everyone connected with everything.

The "Titans" were a small group of bold men. These cunning men monopolized patiently on the fields they worked in, using their genius to push the others around. In the end, they ended up with way too much money for themselves, their self-centered mind track led to their persecution later on.
2)The railroad, it was the longest and most important running things. The transportation of all goods are important, and every other good needs to get shipped.
3) I'm thinking both because though the way they went about it was a genius, making the fastest way to make money and more amounts of it, but at the same time it's bad because the ruthlessness of it all severely affected many  innocent people.
4) Vanderbilt stonewalled the other rail company then bought them out
Carnegie bought out refineries just to shut them down
Rockefeller built a pipeline just to spite Vanderbilt and his friend..ish type person
5)A new emerging service is the media business. Businesses like Twitter and facebook are gaining more and more business.

The used there money to buy the equipment to build rail lines and steal etc. The guys were also tenacious to buy the stocks to expand there companies. They were so competitive that they would do anything to there workers to stay ahead of the competition. But at the same time they were smart. They were so smart that they had built companies from scratch. I honestly think that the steal industry was the most important. It made the United States soar to new heights. The build became taller. The factories had a new metal to use in fire. The tactics were both unethical and genius.
