I am from the light posts that line the sidewalks I tread–

illuminating, showcasing.

It sounded like cooing doves, peace, and harmony.

I am from the ancient oak trees that mark their historic roots in the ground beneath me, 

hued hydrangeas,

that my mom loves so dearly,

I’m from the game of White Elephant on Christmas Eve and noses that move to our smile lines when we smile unforgivingly,

from Grandma and Papa

and Daddy Coco.

I’m from the family that has to shout over one another to be heard and 

will always love everyone with open arms,

From being taught good morals and always saying please and thank you,

I’m from a Christian, an atheist, and here I remain spiritual,

holding onto the belief of an afterlife and spirits.

I’m from Northridge and Leon Guanajuato,
