My character is in love with her doctor but the smell of him causes a spark of emotion from a 2 years ago. What my character doesn't realise, is that she is hallucinating the whole thing so the doctor isn't actually real. She is extremely exhausted from having to explain her 'illness' to everybody over and over again. Shes done explaining it and getting no progression or seeing no improvement. Shes tired of being told what she feels, how she should act, being manipulated by every doctor that walks in the room. She believes that shes fine the way she is and no doctor needs to help her be better as shes as good as shes going get. She has also gained a type of sarcastic humour from her 'illness' which has helped her to talk about it over the years. Shes an intelligent woman and knows what going on around her and inside of her. She knows what shes dealing with and she knows that the doctors cant fix her as there's nothing to be fixed. Shes angry at herself though because she wants to be able to take care of herself without having the doctors there to look out for her. She wants to be able to make her own mistakes not being told her existence was a mistake because of this 'illness'

Lighting
The difference it makes:
The lights can give the play direction so the audience know where to look at certain points. If you wanted to focus on one thing like a certain actor, the lights can help by projecting one light onto that person so you know where to look and keep the focus. So if you wasn't to have the lights it wouldn't be as effective. People wouldn't be able to instantly focus on one thing as they could if there was lights.

The effects that it can have:
When having the lights on stage depending on the colours, it can cause different types of effects. For example if it was a dramatic scene and the lights were red it would cause more of a dangerous background.

Different types of stage lights:
- PAR lights
- Strip lights
- Scoop lights
- House lights and work lights
- LED stage lights
- Fresnel lantern
- Ellipsoidal reflector spotlight
- Beam projector.
Different types of light:
- Floods

- Focus Spots

- Profile Spots

- Beam lights
Different types of lighting:
Blackout - The acting area is not lit
Slow Fade - The lighting/ sound is faded out slowly
Fast Fade - The lighting/ sound is faded out quickly
Snap - Blackout is achieved instantly
Cross Fade - To change from one lighting cue to another with no blackout in between
Fade Up/ Down - To brighten or dim the lighting
Flood - Lantern giving a wide spread of light
Gel - Film placed in front of a lantern to change the colour of the beam
Spotlight - Beam of light created by a lantern for a person or place on the acting area
Focusing - Positioning the lanterns to get the desired lighting
Following Spot - Powerful profile used to follow actors around the acting area
Fresnel Spot - Lantern giving a soft edged beam of light
Wash - The whole acting area is evenly lit
Barndoors - Adjustable metal flaps attached to the front of a Fresnel spotlight for shaping the beam of light
G-clamp - Clamp used to secure lantern to lighting bar or stand
Gobo - Thin metal plate cut out in a pattern and placed in a lantern to project pattern or shape into the acting area
Pyrotechnics - Stage fireworks
Safety Chain - Used to attach a lantern to the lighting bar fro safety
Special Effects - Used to create a mood or atmosphere on stage e.g. strobe light, mirror ball, smoke machine

Sound:
I'm not on sound but it relates.
Cue - A signal for an actor to do or say something, or for a lighting or sound effect to begin or end
Fade In/ Down - To bring the volume up/ down
Cross Fade - To change from one sound cue to another, with no silence in between
Live (SFX) - An SFX is recorded on tape and played on cue during the performance
SFX - The quick way to write 'sound effects'

Costume:
The costume epitomises the scaffolding, so the grey colour is an extension of the colour of the scaffolding.

The sound and costume enhances the piece and help to communicate the intention.

On the day of the show I will be looking at the different types of lights we should use to emphasis parts of each section. I have already had an idea to use a wash of warm blue colours and whites on a lot of it.

On the Monday before the show, I had the opportunity to go to the theatre to help out. Whilst I was there, I was able to have a look at all the lights and how they were being places above or around the stage. We were having issues with one of the wings at the back stage right. The light was going over the curtain causing a sharp shadow on the cyc. It was very noticeable so Michelle and Mandy got a ladder and moved the light so it wouldn't be an issue any more. I went to the light box and got to see how they were going to be operating all the lights. We then decided that we liked the blue and green washes and the white spotlights from above the stage looked good they just needed to be adjusted.

** The only production role I had was lighting but I also helped with getting together people to do ushering and front of house as the people who were meant to do it weren't doing their job. They wouldn't ask anybody so I had to ask people other wise we would of got into trouble and have nobody to be there on the night.**

The Stage
There will be shadows on the cyc (the back wall, a white screen)
There will be no gels in the lights coming from the floor.
At the back, there are 4 lights that consist of 4 different colours. Yellow, blue, green and red. That means you can out the colours together to create alternative colours like purple, orange etc..
We want it very monotone.
We were thinking maybe a green wash.
There will be a wide spot light (doesn't have a sharp crisp line, it feathers out)
You can have the colours at different percentages. So it will differ the brightness and how sharp the colours will be.
White cant be added to the washes because it will completely cover it and get rid of the colour itself.
There will be shadowing on the floor and on the cyc.
The lamps with colour are over the stage.
Reds and greens. No magenta's.
The opening, just black and white.
Throughout the performance we ended up using a range of lights. We used mostly reds, blues and greens. There was more red than most.

The costume epitomise's the scaffolding, so they grey colour is an extension of the colour of the scaffolding
The sound and costume enhances the piece and help to communicate the intention.
http://www.stagelightingguide.co.uk/
A book called:
List of different acting techniques and skills

Different types of colours:

The Different Types of Characters

Mona:
Her mum thinks shes perfect but once she gets pregnant she doesn't think that anymore. When her mum sees the first load of secrets she laughs and thinks that shes just being a child but once she sees the second load she then realises that somethings wrong and she has issues that need to be dealt with. The worst part about the situation, is her being attacked is better to her than having to be at home with the life that she lives. Shes numb to the reality of the situation but because she got given the privacy that she wants and the space, 'love' that she wants, she doesn't see it as a bad thing. Her whole life she has lived in her mothers shadow, and this is the only thing that she didn't have to share. It was hers.
Astrid:
She feels stuck to him like she can't leave as shes still in love with him. She tries to cheat to make her feel better but she ends up feeling worse. She wants the cheating to feel better but because she still loves him it ends up making her feel worse which is frustrating for her.
Miles:
He has lived his whole life getting everything. Believing that he is this amazing person everybody loves. Then this one thing happens and his whole perspective changes. He starts to not care and he even says " I'm alive from chance and chance alone." He doesn't feel guilt, hes living his life but still not caring. If he asks for coffee he just wants coffee he doesn't care what type, just coffee. He ends up hiding the fact that he is traumatised by what had happened by acting like nothings happened, he always had the answers for everything but not this which was making him crazy.
Danny:
Danny had lived a life of trying to be perfect. His mothers job was perfecting people for the front of magazines which clearly had a greater impact on him. His life revolved around being perfect. He was well-built and in his early twenties. He had everything he wanted but once he joined the military and the skin from his leg came off he realised the beauty from the inside of his body. He realised that we all look the same on the inside. He has 0 social skills from purely focusing on his appearance so he didn't know how to deal with his emotions which lead him to talking to dead people.
Naida:
When she opened up, she got rejected. She's annoyed because the only time she actually opened up it got thrown back in her face. She doesn't blame herself for any of it, she only blames him as he lied to her. She does have the doubt of opening up to anybody. Shes still in pain as she still loves him and hasn't moved on. Its like loving somebody you know you cant have. She had been tipped over the edge prior but he brought her back up. But him doing this has just pushed her back to square one again.
Charlotte:
Shes experienced the loss of somebody close to her. Shes just desperate as she wants them back so badly. Shes lonely and hurting as shes now alone and misses them.
Chloe:
In the past shes had abuse and its given her the trauma and anxiety she deals with now. Her mother tries to help her by putting a routine in place but she ends up isolating herself. She stopped socialising. Stopped being on social media. She says "Even a captain doesn't see the full force of a tsunami" The techniques helped but it made her cut out her emotions which ended up with her not understanding them. She realised that she will be living with it for the rest of her life so she managed to control it and deal with it over the years by learning new techniques and figuring our new ways to be at peace with it.

We also decided as a group that when we are all on stage there wasn't going to be set characters. Or set names. Because not everybody had a certain character. Not everybody got a monologue from Eight which is where the characters with names came from. The people who are reading from Sarah Kane's script don't have a set character so we decided to not have that for anybody.

She went unchecked by medical staff for more than 90 minutes before taking her own life. The hospital had been warned that she was suicidal and needed monitoring as she tried it a few days before with an antidepressant overdose a few days before. She was "hailed as the young playwright of her generation."

Ella Hickson has written many different plays, she says that shes mostly challenged by the work of contemporary writers. She has spoken about loving the way people interpenetrate her monologues. She wrote a monologue being about freedom but when a brilliant actor performed it, they made it clear that it was about loneliness which she hadn't seen herself. She mentions that the hardest play she wrote was oil. Hickson became famous from her play Eight when she was just 23 years old.

She was her own composer and script writer.

Other plays written by her:
- The Writer 2018
- Wendy & Peter Pan 2013
- Precious Little Talent 2009
- Boys 2012
- The Authorised Kate Bane 2012
- Oil 2016

https://www.standard.co.uk/go/london/arts/ella-hickson-i-always-want-to-be-in-the-conversation-with-whats-being-made-now-in-theatre-a3816371.html

https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/theatre-dance/features/ella-hickson-a-playwright-who-grabs-the-zeitgeist-2263433.html

She said that my character is exhausted and I should let the words carry themselves as they already mean a lot.
Mandy - She said that she agreed with phoebe, my characters exhausted and should look and feel like that. She also said that she can still see me and she wants to see my character not me. She said I need to start challenging more so when she hears somebody talking she knows its me and she wants to be able to not hear me and hear something different. Mandy had said that she feels like I am improving on my diction which is good because she asked me to work on it.
Nathaniel - He said that he believes my character should be really crazy and I should get into the craziness a lot more than I am now.
Jemma - She said that every time I said the word in I would take a deep breath and they could see that I was thinking. Which wasn't intentional. I need to pronounce my letters properly also because I wasn't pronouncing my T's properly so my words were coming out funny. But she said that I had good pauses and I had good tone of voice.

We will be using some of the Arturo and Brecht techniques within our play.
Artuad - We wont be going to the extremes that he went to but we will be looking to get the audience to feel uncomfortable and left not knowing what to do. We want to give them to feel like they are apart of the play. Some people when ready monologues are going to try to attack the audience with the words they are using so it will look like the actor is talking to them and asking them 'why', which will leave the audience members wondering if they should answer or look away.
Brecht - Our play is about sore subjects that people don't necessarily touch on so when using the Brecht technique it will be breaking them barriers and being able to connect with people in the audience.

Stereotypes

Meaning - ."..a fixed, over generalised belief about a particular group or class of people.”

Advantage:
- This allows us to be able to respond quickly to situations because we may of had a similar experience before.
Disadvantage:
- It makes us ignore the individuality all around us because we then start to assume that it will be the same all around even though it could not necessary be true.
For example; If a man was to cheat on a woman. She would then start to assume all guys are like that. So then the stereotype, is that all men are players and only want one thing. Whereas it isn't true about all men.

Examples of societies stereotypes:
- All women are bad drivers
- Black people are always the best at basketball and can run really fast. They love to eat chicken and always break the law so you should be mostly scared of black people. Always end up growing up in dodgy areas and don't have a lot when kids
- White people always study hard in school and get really good grades. Are well taught when growing up as they would of had the best childhoods with money and food on the table every day
- Older people don't know how to use technology
- Teenagers are extremely rude and irresponsible. Don't listen to their parents and mess around in school. They never have any manners or respect for their older's and don;t follow any rules set for them.
- All little girls want to grow up to be a princess
- Blondes are dumb
- Being gay, you love to be over dramatic about everything. Her mum the found her secrets and emptied them out to all of her friends. This shows what kind of relationship they had as mother and daughter.
It is also shown in Danny's monologue because his mum designed the front of magazines and it made Danny felt insecure as a child which progressed to his trying to be perfect.

Raj was using the Alexander technique to help Jemma improve her monologue. We watched as a class on how he helped her improve the little things she was doing. When acting her monologue she kept moving her hands and doing certain things with her body which was distracting us from her actual performance. Which is why Raj stood in front of her and helped her get rid of them litter movement. He started by telling her to start performing her monologue and whenever she would do it, he would stop her and tell her so she knew what parts of the monologue was making her use her arms. They spent about an hour just working on how she was moving her arms and what she was doing and when she performed it after she was completely different and it made her performance so much more interesting to watch.

She went throughout each sentence and helped me to figure out which words I was going to emphasis on and when I was going to speed up or slow down on certain lines. Once going over everything, I performed it in front of the class and Mandy said it was the best she has ever seen me do it which had made me feel really good. I defiantly felt different whilst performing it. When I was acting it out, I actually felt like my character. I felt a massive improvement.

Once Phoebe had helped me, I felt a massive difference when performing as I knew what parts to emphasis and what parts to be quite on. I got a better understanding of my character which is what helped me know how to create a better performance.

- I performed my monologue that Phoebe wrote me in front of the level ones. I did it multiple times with each time having Mandy giving me different feedback to try so we could see what would look better as a whole. Mandy used the 'what if' method asking me what if I was exhausted, what if I was angry, what if I had given up etc. Each time the level ones gave me feedback. They had said that I needed to stay calm and not let my projection get the better of me as I kept getting louder for no reason. Mandy said that I needed to show the internal pain that my character is in and when I say certain words I don't need to get louder to emphasis the words, I need to say them with more meaning, coming from my diaphragm so it sounds like I am genuinely going through a lot.
- Mandy and I sat down and went throughout my monologue that Phoebe wrote me. We went through it making sure to create new pauses so it would create more of an effect when I'm saying certain parts and we decided on what words I was going to emphasis. We needed to see what different tones and volumes I could use when delivering my monologue. I also went through it with her showing me what parts need to come from within to make the audience believe what I am saying. The goal is to get the audience feeling something, feeling sorry for me. I want them to be watching my character not me.
The feedback given to me in that session helped me to develop my character. It also helped me to work on my characterisation. Adding in the pauses and understanding what words I needed to emphasis helped me again to communicate to the audience the intention of what I was trying to get across.

Whilst being in performing arts I have had a dramatic change in my every day life not only in lessons. I've noticed when watching films or plays, I now notice a lot more that take me away form being able to get into the moment of just watching it. Now my mind takes what i'm watching and scripts it. For example, when watching films, i'll tend to notice how they've positioned the camera and how they could of done it better to make that specific scene more interesting for myself. When watching films I've also noticed when the actors make little mistakes or when they take pauses to dramatise a scene. When watching plays I notice more on the staging of the play so for instance, i'll notice what part of the stage they'll be on and for what reason have they decided to go there etc.
When being in lesson and taking part in different activities, I've noticed that i'll use Stanislavsky's technique, the 'what if' method more than most other techniques because I never used to experiment when practising monologues which didn't get me far but now I try it using different emotions and scenarios to see what would make my monologues better. It has made me a better performer because I now am able to experiment with all the characters that I get given which has helped me with knowing the best way to go for my character. When being in lesson I understand more. I used to struggle when people would talk about different practitioners and what they did but i'm getting so much better and now am able to understand more than I ever used to. When I get given a script, I see it differently to the way I used to as I used to just look at it and read the words but now when I look at it, I start to see where I can place pauses and what different stage directions I could use on different parts of each monologue I get which has helped me so much recently. Its defiantly helped me on being able to not listen, not necessarily to the script but what the scripts telling me, as some script have stage directions but if they don't feel right to me or I have a different idea to approach, then I know I can propose that idea to whoever else i'll be doing it with, if I am, instead of letting the script take control.

Over the years terrorist attacks has just increased and it has petrified the world. Its gotten to the point where there has been attacks at gay bars/ clubs, children's schools, the list goes on.

Past life is stating what happened when you were being brought up as a child or the life you used to live compared to the life that you are living now. For example living in a certain area till a certain age, having a life and friends there to then moving and starting somewhere new creates that past life. So your past life would be where you used to live with your old friends and your new life is the one you would be living now. Another example would be if you had a certain life with a certain name, certain family etc and then moving away starting a whole new life with new friends, new family, new job etc. That then creates a past life so the life you live now would be your current life and the life that you used to live with all them other people and other jobs etc would then be that past life.
Where is past life shown in the play:
Past life is shown in Miles because he talks about how before the accident he had a wife, a child, he had a job that he went to, a whole life. Where as after, he left, faked his death, started doing drugs, going to parties, staying in hotels and just not caring about anything he did. "He was the glory boy."

Meaning:
"A deeply distressing or disturbing experience."
Medically:
"Physical injury."

Trauma is created by a psychological, emotion response to an event or experience that is deeply distressing/ disturbing. It can refer to something that can cause a long lasting physical trauma, such as an accident, having an illness, being injured. Or it can be mentally caused from the loss of a loved one, going through parents or your own divorce, watching another person getting hurt. Going into extreme measures, it can also be cause by sexual assault, grooming, rape, torture. Everybody process and deals with trauma differently. some people can go through something as a child and when something similar happens it can trigger that trauma, some people deal with it for a long period of time and then get over it after dealing with it. But because trauma has such a wide spectrum psychologists have developed categories as a way to differentiate between the types of trauma. There are complex trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and developmental trauma disorder.
Where trauma is shown in our play:
In Danny's monologue, he talks about being this perfect being with everything he ever wanted and then going into the war to have the skin ripped off his leg. He then talks about how he had to deal with that and how its affected him. He now works as a skin constructor which is what helps him with it and talks to dead bodies. Trauma is also shown in Miles because after the accident he started to not care. He saw his life as "chance and chance alone." When he would buy stuff he wouldn't care about the details he just wanted it. For example when he would ask for coffee he would just say coffee and when the worker would say what type of coffee the response would be just coffee. If he went to a hotel and asked for a room they would ask what room and he would say he doesn't care just a room. The trauma of the accident effected him in a way where he believed he was only alive by that singular chance and change alone so he didn't care about details because he could die any second.

https://centerforanxietydisorders.com/what-is-trauma/

Meaning:
"A result or effect, typically one that is unwelcome or unpleasant."

Consequences is caused by an action that somebody or something has made. It is the after affect. For example if you lie to your parents and they find out you lied, there will be consequences such as being grounded, having your phone taken off of you, no sweets etc. Or another example is if somebody was to break the law, there would be the consequence of going to jail or having community service.
Where is consequences shown in the play:
Consequences is shown in my character because my character has been hurt over and over again and not show the love and affection she needed in life and so when she got that from her doctor purely from his trying to help her, the consequence was that she fell in love with him and wanted more from it. It wasn't intentional but because of what had happened in her past life, she fell in love with him. It is also shown in Miles' monologue because he talks about missing his family and wanting to go back but because he faked his death and moved on from that life, his consequence is never being able to go back as he lied.

I have researched Berkoff because our play is using movement during some peoples monologues, which is different to most plays. This can relate to Berkoff because he also used more movement in his productions. He had the use of mime, Gymnastics and the voice. Steven Berkoff formed his own company in 1968, The London Theatre Group. By using mime, gymnastics and the voice, they decided to remove themselves from the normality of mainstream theatre and started to develop a new, more integrated theatrical language.

https://www.dramaonlinelibrary.com/playwrights/steven-berkoff-iid-19003

Deciphering the Script

So when deciphering the two scripts, first of all we looked at Sarah Kane, whilst reading this we discovered that there was a rhythm to the text and we decided as a group that we were going to use the rhythm within the performance piece that we were devising. The rhythm would come from the tones in our voices and would be in individuals voices as we would be repeating lines after one another. We also looked at taking out the text that was too heavy, the context that was also too heavy for this particular performance. From there, we decided to discuss what we thought the piece may be about because it was so open. When looking at the Eight monologues, Raj went off and researched them and then presented each monologue to the class. As a class this was an incredible moment of us all connecting and being able to understand what was happening in the monologues and breaking them down. From there we decided to take out certain words from each play and the words that we ended up coming up with as a group that we thought were in both plays were; previous life, identity, relationships and reflection on life. So we went back to Eight, looked at the monologues that we were going to use and we took out chapters of previous life, identity, relationships, and reflection so we could then cut the monologues up. We then sat and placed individual parts of these monologues into the Sarah Kane script so that the monologues are never said as a whole, pieces of the monologues are said throughout the script instead. This was the process we continued to use throughout all of the development of the scripts. During this time, this allowed me to be able to reflect from the scripts and because as a class we discussed and analysed the scripts it helped me understand what was going on. Every time we looked at this bit of writing my perception on what I thought the piece was about was changing all the time. So my first perception was that these plays are intense and extremely harsh but then as I developed the writing and the characterisations of it, I could see the maturity and the intelligence in the writing and how it reflected on everyday society of all ages. Looking at previous life and how it affects you, looking at how we find identity in today's society as a human being and the relationships that we make, how there defined a lot of the time by our previous life. We looked at how we reflect, especially trauma and how it changes us. Sometimes even for the good. This was the beginning of us developing the play. So we looked at rhythm, spoken word. As we started to develop the play more, we looked at how bringing the scaffolding to look its confinement of the human brain and how we can find ourselves in our feelings and thoughts. Looking at the electrons that jump in our brain. We then decided that we were going to look at atoms and us being individual atoms moving through the scaffolding and through time. So we decided whilst developing the play that there was going to be no communication between each other. The communication was only ever going to be to the audience to shock them, to keep them on their toes, to keep them thinking constantly 'what is happening'. For me this process has developed me as a performer, as a writer, a director and a choreographer. Its given me a chance to look at all these different aspects but also its allowed me to push myself in a way that I never thought I would before.

So what you can see, what you can smell, what you think you can touch. There's my part in the script about the doctor. Its about what I can smell and how i'm in love with him. She sees it as I could be hallucinating the doctor, so he isn't actually there but I think that I can touch him and smell the tobacco on him. That gave me the idea that my character is already in a metal hospital so when i'm in my room, this doctor is my stability as to me, he's real and is helping me.

We was then going to have Hidden Fallacy as the name but we ended up deciding it didn't work and decided as a group. to have Volatile Delusion.

Meanings:
"An intense feeling of deep affection"
or
"A great interest and pleasure in something"

Love is a powerful thing. It can be the beginning of a whole new life or it can the worst thing to ever get into. It can bring somebody the most joy they have ever felt but it can also cause somebody the worst pain they have ever felt. The best part about love is it comes in many different forms..
Between 2 people.
Between a parent and their child/ children.
Between a human and an animal.
Between a group of friends.
The list goes on but they all come with some kind of an attachment. It can be the best feeling in the world until its either taken from you by death or in a physical way like abductions. It can cause people to do the worst things imaginable like suicide or self harm. For some people even kill. I would say that love is also a very manipulative tool. The reason why is because it can easily blind somebody from the truth. For example if a man and a woman are in a relationship and love each other, if one of the two do something that isn't right, the love can over power it. So if there was abuse involved some people will still stay in it because they love that person. They will be blinded by the bad and only see good even if there isn't any. It can also be manipulating in a way for family's because people can use it to get what they want. For example, some body could take a parents child and then ring the parent and say 'i have your child, i want something (money etc) in return for their safety otherwise they will get hurt. Because of that love there, they will do whatever they can to get that child back. Love can cause trauma also as if its not given enough it can cause a person to become helpless, poorly and depressed.
Where is Love is shown in the script:
Love is shown in the script in my character because i am in love with a doctor but he doesn't love me back. My character didn't get the love and affection she needed so when she got professional help she thought it was something different to what it actually was. My character is also hallucinating this doctor as she wants to be loved that bad, even though the doctor still doesn't love her back.

The Decision of what Play to Use

As a class we spent the first few weeks going over a few different books including Chaos by Laura Lomas, Blank by Alice Birch and Wounds to the face by Howard Barker. We had to decide which play we wanted to reinvent but none of us could decide. But by the end we all decided that we liked both Eight and 4.48. The only issue was we couldn't decide between these as we all wanted to do both. So as a class we decided that we would spilt both plays and create our own. We liked Eight because there was many strong but different characters that we could all do a lot with. We liked 4.48 because the text itself was incredible and as she went into so much detail with still leaving it up to the audience to decide what it was about I personally found it extremely intelligent and also interesting to read. We though we could takes parts of individual monologues from eight and scatter them around the 4.48 script whilst placing them all in different themes. Which is what we did and created our own script from it. We also decided that we wasn't going to have particular characters and not have any communication throughout the whole play, which is simple but smart. We wanted to not put to much definition into the play as we wanted the audience to decide what was happening. We wanted to use mostly Brecht with the idea of getting the audience involved but also use Artaud to make the audience feel uncomfortable and not knowing what to do or where to look next.

When first starting to work on our FMP, we had to audition for a part in a play that we would be creating later on producing. I Auditioned a monologue from The Inspector Calls called sheila (the link for it is at the bottom) because it was out of my confront zone as I didn't know how to act like high end person. I thought I would watch some videos on how to walk and talk like a posh person. Once I had performed it, the feedback I got given was that it didn't come across that I was trying to be posh. The acting was good but I didn't portray the character as well as I should of. I think when I got to performing it, I had gotten nervous and didn't act the way I should of acted. Overall I learnt that I should do more research on the play and look more into my character as I clearly didn't do as much as I needed to.

https://www.wattpad.com/129162020-sheila-birling-an-inspector-calls-inspired

I decided to research the character Tami from the movie Adrift. This movie is about a woman finding a man whist she is travelling and they fall in love. They decide to go travelling together but as they were travelling on a boat they came across one of the worst hurricanes recorded in history which ended up destroying their boat and badly injuring the love of her life Richard. The movie goes on with her helping him to survive and fixing the boat to find out at the end of the movie she had been hallucinating him ever since the accident. The reason it reminds me of my character is because my character is hallucinating a doctor and has fell in love with him. She has genuine love for him as he has been giving her professional help. Even though its all in her head, it's still been keeping her calm and helping. In this movie, Richard is like my imaginary doctor because he has been helping Tami by simply giving her a reason to live and fight even though he isn't actually there. Which is what she was doing. This helped the development in my character because it helped me understand that when hallucinating you think you know 100% that its real so I have to let that be shown. I need to believe that I am talking to somebody even though I know i'm not. I need to have the belief. When watching the movie, I watched how she acted and the way she moved around him which has helped me to develop the way I'll be moving around when speaking my monologues.

For example, when I first read 4.48 Phycosis I though it was crazy and I didn't really enjoy it but once I had annotated it and Raj had gone through it I realised that its just about a girl who wasn't loved and fell in love with the first person who shown her any sort of care for her.
Practical
We thought of getting a scaffolding for setting the scene but we had to go through the process of insurance, getting the permission from the college, getting it to the college, getting it from the college to the theatre, getting the money for it.
Many different factors came into play when we thought of this idea. But we ended up getting the permission from the college, the company said we could have it for free and they will do the travelling for us, we managed to get the insurance covered and we all signed a piece of paper stating that we will not be irresponsible with it.
Production
We decided as a group that we we're going to do it as though we we're the atoms and we wasn't going to have any identity's. That's why we were all dressed in grey. The problem was figuring out what we were going to wear and individuals as we had to find something that would suit all of us both boys and girls. But we had a budget which wasn't a lot so we needed to find the cheapest clothes possible. We were going to all be in white but for the budget we had and the clothes that we had brought, the white ended up being see through which then lead us to getting grey. Which then gave us the idea of us being like the scaffolding as the scaffolding's grey as well. So in the end it worked out perfectly.

I also used different methods to remember my monologues, one was recording myself saying them and then going over it multiple time. I recorded times when I was being helped, like when Phoebe helped me with my monologue or when I got help by Jemma or Raj with them telling me what the techniques involved. This folder is a very important part of my coursework.

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-2yH7VykfCc4b97iTAkR7F2FEwO_T-AT?usp=sharing

Anytime Mandy and I would have a conversation she would correct me if I didn't for it properly so I had the chance of getting used to it.
I needed to work on my monologues because I would project my voice but Mandy wanted me to project to a certain extent but talk from within so it was internal. So I practised at home and I am getting better but still need a lot more practice.

Development

I realised at the beginning of this process that I wasn't open minded when it came to the creativity. Mandy talked us through the process, explaining that sometimes 80% of what we create and play with will not be used but that 20% will be a foundation from which we will build the piece. This feedback has dramatically change the way I view theatre, myself as an actor and how important the creative processes. My social awareness of people and society has develop which has helped to inform my development as an actor. I've realised that understanding people and the life we live in is part of being an actor. I found the whole process to be engaging and exciting. After researching Sarah Kane, I got caught up in her her personal life, then through group discussion I realised I was focusing on the wrong thing, it was her writing that I need to focus on and how we were going to create a piece from that. Looking at the rhythm with in the text.

Evaluation of Show Day

Once we got into the theatre and the scaffolding was up we were able to start to practice the play. We first did a run through focusing only on spacing and moving around the stage as the stage is bigger than our classroom so Mandy wanted to move everybody around so we could fill the space. We then did multiple other run through's going over the different lighting's we could use. We quickly found out that we didn't want to do use pink as blues and greens looked so much better and created more of an effect with the scaffolding. We also worked with the mics before hand, doing tech runs and figuring our what numbers we would be for the show. I was number 8. For the show, I got told by all my family and friends that my mic wasn't been on for most of the show but they also said that it didn't matter because I was very loud and the people from the back had heard every word I said. The performance ended very well, not many people ended up messing up and even when they did they covered it up really well. If I was to do it again I would take more time on my monologues as its something that I really struggle with. I tried giving myself a lot of time but I found myself speeding at times which wasn't good for my character. I personally feel like I did well on my performance as I took all the feedback that I had been given prior on board and focused on feeling the emotion, having my words come from within instead of me shouting it. The performance as a whole was amazing, I feel like we could of improved by doing some different transitions as some of the transitions we did ended up being a little repetitive but overall I really enjoyed it.
