Although it was pretty simple, it was all very age appropriate. They’re many different types of desks and chairs for different types of learners. The students had the opportunity to be able to learn from wherever they wanted in the room. Some of the classes I observed were much larger in numbers than others. The students weren’t as dependent on their teachers like the Elementary students. The students still had many questions and seemed comfortable with their teachers. They didn’t seem like they needed their teachers for their typical everyday things but the teacher’s were always willing to help with whatever they needed, regardless of the subject. The student-student interactions were completely different. Some of the students were constantly told to work on their own work because they were constantly talking to each other. Other students in the class had little to no interaction with each other. No two classrooms were the exact same. I think my favorite part of the atmosphere of the school was the fact that the principle sat in the hallway with his big speakers and a sound system set up. The one thing that stood out to me the most was when a new student arrived. I got to experience a girls first day at this middle school. It was really cool to me to see how well the students welcomed her and how the teachers did so well with trying not to make her feel overwhelmed and get her on track with the rest of the class.
