Whilst collaboratively working as a whole class to create a model paragraph for analysis, I added cognitive strain by slowing the learning down. After every few lines pupils would have to swap pens and annotate the exemplar, identifying the skills and strategies used to track the process employed. This meant we were able to embed meta cognitive strategies through discussion. Once we completed this, we then moved on to developing a schema whereby students had to consolidate their notes and learning to a set success criteria, using skills of evaluation of ensure they could explain why certain aspects were more important than others. See attached image for an example in student book.
