The root cause was the Taliban - that’s where it all started. There are many examples of how women are not treated as equals. Unlike men and people living in the United States, they have different expectations and have much fewer rights, and society is not giving equal status to women and men. For example, girls and women are hurt by poverty, forced into underage marriages, and there are many occurrences of physical and sexual violence, such as honor killing. Honor killings are when a family member kills a woman in his or her family just because they think that the woman is a dishonor to the family. Almost 1 in 3 married Pakistani women face physical violence from their own husband. Some other forms of violence include public whippings from the Taliban on women, domestic violence and rape. During public whippings, a crowd forms around and other people even offer to help hold the women down. Also, all girls in Pakistan are discouraged from attending school and can’t get the same educational opportunities as the boys. How are women expected to get a good job if they didn’t get a good education as a girl? In conclusion, in Pakistan, the problem is that women don’t have a lot of rights, and are treated less equal than men are.

Women have fewer opportunities and a lot of their futures are taken away and are not as bright as men’s. Also, women are getting physically hurt, which can change their entire life. An example of that is Malala Yousafzai. She got shot in the head by the Taliban on October 9 2012, and she had to start a “second life” by moving to Birmingham and leaving her hometown, Swat Valley. This is also affecting the community directly because girls can’t get the same education as boys because that right was initially taken away by the Taliban, and in many places girls still have a lower rate of school attendance. Girls also can’t get a very good job or profession when they grow to become women, because of their loss of education. On top of that, females have to cover their faces by a niqab whenever they leave their house. They also can’t leave their house without a male escort, which is affecting their freedom. One place that should be concerned is Birmingham, England. Families like Malala’s have to flee there because women are not getting rights in Pakistan and it is unsafe there. Malala's family chose to go to Birmingham because the hospital that was there had good quality, which Malala needed because she had just been shot by the Taliban at the time. Some neighboring countries around Pakistan are Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, India, and Turkmenistan, so those countries should be concerned as well. Women are getting sexually harassed, so the rest of the world should help and address this issue because it is unacceptable. You can support and help this issue by donating to organizations such as the Malala Fund, speaking out, or supporting this issue on social media. In conclusion, the rest of the world should be concerned about this issue.

I am an average Pakistani girl with very little rights, just because of my gender. For example, I can’t go to school and get an education like my brothers, which is very unfair. Also, women in the town that I live in are affected by honor killings, domestic violence and rape, as well as getting treated violently in general.  The other day, I saw a woman get whipped in public. There was even a crowd that formed around her to watch the horrific scene. On top of that, girls just like me have to cover their faces whenever they leave their house, and can’t leave without a male escort. Luckily, people like Malala are standing up for women’s rights, and she is speaking at different campaigns. She also created the Malala Fund to help! Even though there are supporters like her, life for a female is still extremely hard.

First, there is the Malala Fund created by Malala Yousafzai, which is investing in girls’ education. It is a non-profit organization that breaks down the barriers that prevent 130 million girls going to school. Now with this organization, all of those girls can get an education. Also, there are speakers and protesters like Malala. They speak and protest about the rights that they are lacking  and need. Lastly, there is an organization called Plan International which advances equality for girls, who will grow to become women. We are very lucky to have these people and organizations to address this very important topic.
