Good morning,

My name is Sara wright, and I am a second-year outdoor adventure leadership and con ed student! I am from a small town in southern Ontario called Meaford, located near Blue Mountain. I am interested in outdoor activities, I'm currently loving skiing and hiking, but during the summer I also enjoy canoeing, camping and going on trips. I am also part of the Laurentian cheerleading team! I chose to become a teacher because I've worked with kids for many years, working as a kindergarten EA, teaching skiing, working at summer camps and taking kids camping. After spending so much time working with kids, I learned how inspiring it is to help children grow and learn, and just how fun it can be spending time with them. I am inspired by their sense of joy, love and curiosity for the world and learning. I think it would be so exciting to have a part in shaping a child's life and teaching is such a great way to do that

Some of my passions include sports, fishing, and coaching. I am the Head Coach of my former high school's football team. The reason I want to become a teacher is that I have been working with children for about 6 years with summer camps and youth programs, and it is something I am very passionate about. Also, I had many very supportive teachers throughout the years, and this made me realize just how important it is to be a role model for kids. I hope to continue the trend of helping students achieve their full potential!

Quite the sports fan as well, my favorite sport is American Football... Go Birds! Also, Go Jays! I'm also a bit of a gym rat. If I'm not at Work or school, I'm in the gym.

Fun Fact: I'm actually in my Third-year of University, having completed my first year down at York University in the Performance Music program, Transferred home after the CUPE Strike in the winter semester. After graduation I will have a minimum of 3 teachable's (Music, Phys Ed, History) I've always wanted to be a teacher since I was a kid, but in Grade 8 I had a music teacher who changed my life and I knew that teaching was my calling, I loved working at summer camps teaching kids I knew I also wanted to be able to help teens find their calling. I dream to one day also travel abroad and complete a teaching degree in the UK, I think it'd be a great way to see the world.

I’m from Sudbury and went to St. Benedict’s for high school. I come from a big family I have one full sister and two half sisters and growing up with siblings, along with being surrounded by lots of family and friends, has really shaped who I am. I completed a placement at MacLeod Public School, and being in the classroom with kids is what truly inspired me to become a teacher. Another is reading and surrounding myself with my friends. Deciding to become a teacher was easy, as I have a passion for not only learning, but also making school and the classroom a safe, fun, and caring environment for students. A trait influenced greatly by a high school history teacher of mine, who made showing up everyday just a little more tolerable. It is important that children know that school can be so much more than subjects/black and white, but rather an environment to feel safe and grow.

Hi everyone!

My name is Kiara, and I'm from Hamilton. I am in second year of Con Ed, with a major in social work and minor in English. I dyed my hair about a week ago to pink so imagine me but with a raspberry torte from strawberry shortcake coloured hair. Ever since I was little, I have loved baking. I mostly bake cakes, cookies, and cake pops, but my goal this year is to make a croquembouche. I also love doing art, specifically drawing, scrapbooking, and collaging. Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a teacher. I always enjoyed school and tried my best to help my classmates with schoolwork. When I was in grade 12, I did a placement in a kindergarten classroom and got to experience teaching the junior kindergarteners. There, I found that I was passionate about teaching and being a role model. That placement allowed me to see myself as the influential role models that I had growing up and imagine myself in the teaching role being the inspiration that I had growing up. I hope to someday teach my students to have the love for learning I have and be curious about the world around them while remaining positive and imaginative.

I love any outdoor activities like hiking, running, golfing, and skiing, especially when I can take my dogs along with me! Over the course of my education I have had a lot of teachers and coaches that have motivated me to learn and be my best self, and that is something I hope I can do within my teaching years! Overall, my end goal would be to teach special education or be in a guidance role.

My name is Brianna, and I have lived in Sudbury my entire life. More specifically, I live in Dowling. I am in my second year of Concurrent Education, majoring in English and minoring in history. A few of my biggest interests include playing guitar (fun fact: I’m actually self-taught after picking it up during COVID), travelling (I recently went to Punta Cana with my family!), and listening to Taylor Swift. I’ve even seen her in concert three times, including the Eras Tour. I chose to become a teacher because I grew up watching my mom in the profession, and she really inspired me. Also, I’ve always loved working with kids. I’ve been a gymnastics coach, I tutor, and my part-time job also involves working with children for the city. More than anything, I want to be a supportive voice for students and help them feel seen, valued, and confident in themselves. In 8th grade, we took a career quiz to see which profession suited us best, and my result was teaching. I still remember my teacher looking at me and telling me it was the perfect career for me.

Her daycare educators are incredible, and seeing the impact they’ve had on her has inspired me to help ensure that every child receives the same level of care and high-quality education.

Growing up, I was lucky to have amazing teachers and support systems, and those experiences shaped my passion for teaching. I have an apartment off campus with my partner who I have been with since grade 8! Although we often travel home for the weekends as I am a sever at a local restaurant--Tap That Kitchen & Bar. Moreover, I am in my second year in the Con-Ed program, majoring in English Literature and completing a minor in Sociology. I am also working towards completing a teachable in History. My inspiration for becoming a teacher goes beyond simply enjoying working with children. I see students as young people who need guidance, structure, and support. Having struggled academically as a child who received additional support, I became acutely aware of the difference teachers can make when they meet diverse learning needs without fostering shame or exclusion. I value meaningful connection and strive to be a thoughtful, reliable, and firm educator who helps students recognize their potential. I am looking forward to this course and getting to work alongside some of you!

I'm in my second year of con-ed and my major is English Literature Media and Writing and I'm minoring in Sociology. I'm very passionate about films and I love watching movies. I'm into many different genres but my favourite is horror. Aside from movies, I also love to read and hang out with my friends in my very limited spare time. My best friend however, is my cat Molly. She keeps me company while I study. She is a very happy little kitty and she brings me a lot of joy. I also enjoy listening to music and going to concerts. My favourite artists are Taylor Swift and Green Day and I have been fortunate enough to have been able to see them both in concert in 2024.

After my undergraduate degree, I hope to pursue a masters degree in Film and Cinema Studies or begin my teaching career (whichever comes first haha). Ultimately, I'd like to teach overseas, preferably in the U.K. or Ireland but I'd be more than happy and willing to keep teaching here in Canada.

I decided to become a teacher because I value education. When I was 17, I read Malala Yousafzai's memoir and it changed my perspective on education and realized that I had taken mine for granted. Since then, I've strived to make education as accessible and welcoming as I can. There have been many teachers throughout my life who had made a positive impact on me but the two most important are my grandmother and my step-father. My grandmother retired before I entered school but I was taught step-father. He passed away in July, so he will never get to see me follow in his footsteps but I hope to bring his energy, his attitude and love of his students to my practice of a teacher.

I chose to be a teacher so I can carry on and help future students feel positive about themselves and be strong learners as my teachers and my mom did for me.

One of my greatest passions is learning about people and forming meaningful connections with them, whether at a surface level or on a deeper, more personal one. I believe that gaining diverse perspectives is invaluable in life, as it broadens your understanding of so many topics. Learning through personal experience is important, but being able to learn through the experiences of others is equally valuable.

One of the biggest reasons I chose to become a teacher was because of my past experiences with teachers and the school system. I want to be the kind of teacher whose impact helps counterbalance the negative experiences students may have had, and to be a positive, lasting presence in as many children’s or teens' lives as possible.

Hi, My name is Matthew. I am in second year of BPHE Kinesiology Concurrent Education Program. I am from Thunder Bay, Ontario. I like sports (especially soccer and hockey), fishing, hiking, watching movies. In the summertime I work as a camp counsellor at the university back in my hometown and also coach soccer in the soccer club I grew up playing for. I went into teaching cause I've had quite of few teachers and coaches that have influenced to be who I am today and have inspired me to pass on knowledge I learn from them into the real world today. I want to become a Phys ed teacher with a minor in history because I have always been playing sports and doing something active in my life, also Phys ed was one of my favourite subjects growing up. I wanted to also teach history cause it's also been a passion of mine to learn, and I had an amazing history teacher to make that experienced better. For the last 2 summers I have enjoyed being a camp counsellor at a sports camp mostly because I show a good positive impact and to become a great role model for the kids. I hope one day when I become a teacher I can continue to show that in a classroom setting.

Hi everyone! My name is Brooklyn, and I'm in both the Concurrent Education program and the Physical Education and Kinesiology program. I grew up here in Sudbury and went to Lockerby Composite School before my family moved to Newcastle, a small town about 20 minutes from Oshawa. As the social media coordinator for the BEdSA Council and a main base on the Laurentian cheer team, I am actively involved on campus. I also work as a tutor, which has played a major role in shaping my passion for education. Tutoring has shown me how powerful individualized support can be and how much confidence and growth students gain when they feel supported and understood. Outside of school, I love Snoopy and have a growing collection of Snoopy-themed items. I am also a huge Boston terrier lover. I have two of my own, Piper and Charlie, and my boyfriend has one named Luna. They're my pride and joy and bring so much positivity into my life. I decided to pursue a career in teaching because of the incredible teachers I was fortunate to have growing up. Their encouragement and dedication inspired me to want to create the same supportive and motivating environment for my own students. My desire to help students in gaining self-assurance, developing life skills, and becoming the best versions of themselves has been strengthened by my experiences as a student-athlete and tutor.

I love going to pilates and reading my bible. I have a puppy named Arlow, she is a golden retriever mix with a springer spaniel.

I chose to be a teacher because I love the inspiration and the impact you can have on many children's lives. School was not my favourite thing in the world when I was younger but I know how much some teachers made a difference and I want to make the same difference for the future of students. I am passionate about learning skills and having creativity in what you do which I hope students will find the same passion or even better find their own passion with an open mind.

Some of my interests are shopping, yoga, and hanging out with my friends. I also love playing board games, walking my dogs, and going for hikes. There are multiple reasons why I chose to become a teacher, the main being that I grew up around little kids my whole life. I am the oldest of 5 children, the youngest being 3 years old. This has led me to have a lot of babysitting experience, but throughout this time, I developed an interest in watching my younger siblings learn and grow. Another reason why I chose teaching was because of a teacher I had in high school. This teacher taught me a lot of important lessons to become a better student, but most of all, she made me love school. She is definitely one of my inspirations, and I hope to have as much of an impact on my future students as she did on me.

Hello!

My name is Jacob Vrab and I am a second-year Concurrent Education student majoring in History. I am also 22 years old. I am born and raised here in Sudbury (Garson to be specific) and I went to St-Charles College during my High School career. My hobbies consist of sports, video games and especially music. I also love to do any sort of outdoor activity like hiking and camping. I am a massive history buff as well. Becoming a teacher was something I have always wanted to do for as long as I remember. I had some amazing support during high-school that really encapsulated that future for myself. I took one year of Sports Psychology out of high-school and I discovered it wasn't for me, even though I wanted to go into teaching afterwards. I have worked with children for many years within the KUPP Centre and I fully believe that working at the Canadian Mental Health Association during my years off of school really showed me how rewarding it is to support those in need, no matter their circumstances and background. To me, being a teacher is being someone you can rely on. Someone who will support you through this crazy world. Someone who will always listen, make you feel like you belong and that you are deserving of any opportunity, just like anyone else. If I can leave my day knowing I made someone else's better, fulfilled and having students learn something new, I will forever be happy. Thank you!

Outside of school and being a dad, I spend time reading, bird watching, fishing and sometimes playing video games. Also, I believe that the best kind of profession is one that is altruistic, a life of helping others is more fulfilling than a self serving one.

My name is Rowan Smith. I'm a second year con Ed student majoring in biology. I am from Six Nations Reserve about 5 hours south of Laurentian.

I decided to attend here for the education program due to numerous supports I've had in my education. Many teachers and family members have shown me lots of support to continue pursuing my education and I want to pay that forward in a way simalarly to them. Many of my family members are also teachers, or have been in the past.

Outside of school, I enjoy playing lacrosse, fishing, spending time with my friends, and also playing video games. I have also done a little volunteer work teaching high school aged students how to play lacrosse.

It is my hope to one day teach on my home reserve for students in high school to support and encourage them to pursue post secondary education.

My name is Ethan Roos, and I'm from Bracebridge, Ontario. I'm a second-year ADVL student. My hobbies include playing lacrosse for Laurentian and chocolate milk. I want to get into the education field because of my mom, who is an EA and was unable to become a teacher because she lost her sight at a young age. I have volunteered at schools and find it very rewarding. I was also lucky enough to have incredible teachers growing up who influenced me.

My name is Erin Cherneski, I am in my third year of the Bachelors of Psychology program. I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. My hobbies include cross stitching, baking and crocheting. I chose to pursue a career as a teacher after spending more than a decade working within the education field as an Educational Assistant. Learning from teachers whom I had the pleasure of working with closely I realized that furthering my education was not out of reach despite my age.
