Research is the cornerstone of all academic writing and making. In this session we will look at how research can lead from one interest to another and how we focus our research.

I will take you on a walk along the research trail, beginning with an aspect of research which is seemingly incidental (overhearing the music of Post-Punk band Joy Division), then on to a rich and deeper seam of research.

Developing skills in independent learning is important when making the transition into higher education. Independent learning concerns learners having ownership or responsibility for their own learning. The workshop will explore associated terms such as autonomy, self-directed and lifelong learning and will introduce you to key skills and practical strategies to develop your ability to be a successful, independent learner.

This workshop will introduce different types of feedback you might receive when studying at university. It will also consider how you can successfully make use of a range of feedback methods to develop as a learner and as a creative practitioner. It will explore the challenges of receiving feedback and the impact feedback can have on self-confidence and motivation and will consider potential strategies to overcome these.
