DAY2 -LISTENING

    In my classroom I would prefer using both course book activities and authentic materials. I combine of two because they have both positive effects. First authentic listening materials are from real life such as telephone conversations, airport announcements, restaurant dialogues, songs, radio ets. The benefits of using authentic materials are;

The students are exposed to target language ang get the culture's perspective

They are more motivated because the speakers are native

They are a good way for students'acquisiton of language.

When we think the advantages of using course book listening materials, they are;

They are professionally created for the intention of teaching language so they provide structure

They are easier to understand

They save time because teachers dont have to prepare the listening activities detaily.

Combination of both materials is quite good according to their grade, level, context etc.

Today I like thinking related key words about the listening activities as pre listening activity. It is easy and a good way to warm up students.

I think it is also useful; the game to teach ‘wy question words’ for listening. In that game all the students weak or strong ones can join the game easily. They both listen and speak at the same time, that was useful, enjoyable and effective.

We alse studied differentiation today and focused on the studets levels.We should differentiate the activities acording to their level. While giving simple tasks, giving the vocab at the begining, using flash cards, matching, T/F activities are good for weaker students; asking spesific questions obout the listening texts, asking the key words after listening texts, making sentences are more appropriate for stronger students.

I would like to add last thing about our meetings; if it is possible we can do more energisers to get more energetic especially at the last sessions we are getting tired and energyless

DAY 3-Speaking

1. I work in Bitlis, the east part of Turkey. In my district the most common problem is students' lower level to speak English and their negative manner to learning a new language.

2. I found some ideas can help to cope with these problems. Because of differentiation that we focused on today, we can vary up our activities according to the weaker ones and stronger ones. By giving related key words, modeling, giving think time to speak we can support our students to speak. If they know what to speak, they have a model they feel more confident and motivated to speak. We should also do scaffolding with lots of options like personalisation, integrating their interests, pair and group works.

By using interactive games, pair work and group work the students will have a positive manner and be more enthusiastic to learn L2. Secondly by using web 2.0 tools they will be more participant to do the activities of speaking. I really liked 'flip' app. The students can create their own diologues, upload and watch their friend's videos and have fun. Thanks to this kinds of apps we can create a personalised learning activities.

Day 4 - Reading
I find flipped learning is useful for my reading classes. Because we develop our students autonomy by giving them responsibilities. For example as a preparation activity for reading text I ask my students skim the text and underline 5 unknown words then find their meanings on their dictionaries at home. . When they come to class I want them to share the words with their pairs our groups. They will be an active learner by doing this and their self confidence will improve.
2. I really liked onion rings activity we can use it both for warm up and for pre-reading activity. The students interact with each other and have familiar with the key words related to the text.
I think the teachers in my area will also find useful to use flipped learning.

1. Actually I was correcting all the mistakes they have on their writing, but the idea correcting mistakes just on the target language not all of them is very good. Secondly using symbols of marking code without writing the corrects of mistakes is a very good idea for me because it is both time saving for the teacher and more supportive students self learning.
2. Most probably my colleques in me area will like snack writing like me. We can use snack writing more often because our students need time to write long passages. To be honest I didn't focus so much on writing till this moment. Snack writing will be a good to start and the students will like and improve their writing skills with small steps.

Day 6-Vocabulary

1. The students in my area mostly like playing games while learning vocabulay. Today I learned some web sites that you can create your own word games. Word art, quizmaker, baamboozle, games to learnenglish.britishcouncil.org are some of them. These games are both digital and enjoyable for the students.

2. Students need to know now just the meaning of the word but lots of things about the word. I would ask my students to wrote he pronunciation, word form, synonyms or antonyms, collocations, how to use the word in their vocabulary notebooks. If they know the synonyms or antonyms is is easier to remember the word and it is useful to use it in a sentence. Learning collocations is also great to make meaningful sentences.

Day 7 -  PDCs

1. I hope the greatest benefit of being in a PDC for English teachers in my local context will be having a chance to come together to share their problems and their experiences, so they can have some ideas about solutions to their problems. They will work on groups have discussions with other teachers and get ideas, opinions about their problems they faced.
2. Actually without staring to establishing PDC I cannot guess what kind of problems I can face up, but If I need some help, idea, solutions to some problemetics I will contact with them and Ceren teacher, she is also experienced. :)
3. I believe that showing demonstrations to our colleques and giving feedback will be useful for our PDCs. We will plan, demonstrate and take feedbacks and we can foresee the possible positive and negative aspects of our PDCs.
We will also plan all the process with the things I have shared and learned here. We shared lots of good points like digital tools, activities, games etc. about teaching English that will help to plan our PDCs.
