Did not have a clue, educated myself and now I do!

Part of my job is issuing prescriptions for Stoma & Continence patients, did not have a clue about these items when i started my job. Attended a Care Tactical open day at the local college and spoke to the Bladder & Bowel nurse who showed me different types of catheters, stoma pouches etc, made a huge difference by understanding what the items looked like.

Learning made a difference to my role when I learnt to use models of reflection to identify and improve my practice.

Thanks to all that organised this learning week, those behind the scenes and how MS Teams worked, it would have taken a lot of hard work

Our group shared different learning opportunities and ideas that we can take back into our own Health Boards such as 7 Habits, Complementary Therapies, Physiotherapy, Citizens Advice, Staff Wellbeing. The training we all found the most memorable were those that looked at the whole person holistically and not just as an employee. It was lovely to meet people from other Boards with such similar outlooks to health and wellbeing for patients and staff.

Before this week on NES sessions. I felt like progression was about achieving the next band and it felt very linear. However, I learnt that progression is about myself. It has helped put the focus on my own goals and aspirations rather than the job. I have also been made aware of an abundance of tools to help support me achieve these. It has been a positive week

I have been trained how to train other nursing professionals in IMPACT Training within my workplace - REH/SJH Delivering this training has raised my confidence in presenting and realising the differing opinions of nurses, doctors, consultants etc as well as the on the floor HCSW's who understand the patients more than the nursing/doctors staff (Usually) I feel empowered when delivering this knowledge to the staff and this has made a huge difference to my role. Prior to learning this aspect, I was looking for another job, this has made me settled.

Sometime hard to keep up and dedicate time to improve and develop yourself. This provided focus in small chunks across the week which made it easier.

Being relatively new to NHS it was a very supportive and interactive learning time for me. It allowed for learning, reflection, self-care and thought provoking for future ahead. Where do I go from here, what new challenges do I want to take, or do I like where I am and keep being the best version of me.
