I am Kishia Mae P. Gravino, a first-year BAEL student from Cebu Technological University - Tuburan Campus. I am currently 19 years old and will be turning 20 this coming October 29, 2024. I have been told by many that I am beautiful every time they see me, and while I can't blame them, I may not always see those traits in myself. I have always dreamed of becoming a successful woman, but for now, my focus is on finishing college and finding work. However, I know I still have a lot of work to do and many prayers to say because my grades are a bit inconsistent at the moment. I am not someone who puts pressure on myself to achieve good grades; instead, I prefer to go with the flow and enjoy the present moment, as we never know what the future holds.

This picture holds a significant memory of my life. It depicts where I grew up with my mama, papa, lola, and my four siblings. Being born into a family that is not wealthy was very challenging. There were times when I faced a dilemma of whether to continue my education or drop out to find work. Reflecting on my childhood, I always desired the best for my family. That's why I persist and refuse to give up on life because I firmly believe that one day, all these sacrifices will pay off.

Many people say that high school is the best time of one's life, and I wholeheartedly agree. In high school, you meet individuals from diverse backgrounds, yet you are all brought together in one class. Some may like you, some may not; you may like some, and you may not. However, the most important lesson lies in the memories created with these people, which hold a special place in your heart. During high school, I learned to be observant and reserved, choosing to listen more than speak. As time passed, I found myself reverting to my elementary self—the talkative one—due to the influence of those around me. Langub Elementary School instilled in me the value of independence, Looc Norte National High School honed my personal capabilities, and Nangka National High School shaped me into someone willing to give their best. I believe that CTU will serve as the foundation for my future success.

I have had a passion for dancing since I was a child, although I must admit I am not the best dancer in town. During my elementary years, I never had the opportunity to join the hip-hop dance group because I wasn't close with the teacher who led the dance activities at school. This made me doubt my dancing abilities, leading me to participate in festival dances and give my all to stand out. That experience motivated me to promise myself that I would explore what I missed out on during my elementary days. Consequently, during high school, I actively participated in every dance contest that suited my style. Even now, dancing remains a deep passion of mine, but my current focus is on my priorities.

Choosing myself is one of the achievements I have accomplished in my life, and it is my proudest one. Not everyone has the capability to prioritize themselves due to various reasons, but for me, there were numerous instances where I prioritized others over myself, leading to mistakes. Becoming someone who loves themselves more than others has always been my aspiration, and now, I believe it has become a reality.

Challenges are ever-present in our lives, and it is up to us to decide whether to fight or give up. One of the challenges I am currently facing is the decision of whether to continue with my current degree or shift to another program. While I have a passion for English, as a BAEL student, I find myself questioning, "Is this the right path for me? The difficulties are increasing; should I consider stopping?" Despite the encouragement from others who believe BAEL is suitable for me, over time, I have lost the initial excitement for this degree. The increasing complexity has made me realize that English is not an easy language to master.

However, these challenges have molded me into a person who perseveres and seeks positive outcomes. I have come to understand that while today may be tough, tomorrow could bring ease, especially with the support of trusted individuals who instill hope in me. Their presence fuels my aspirations of achieving success in life.

My future will be influenced by the choices I make today. My family is a significant reason why I aim for success in life. It's not just about helping them after I graduate; it's about achieving success together. I believe that one day, I won't have to worry about managing my finances as I'll have a stable job. I also dream of working abroad and going on vacations with my family. I don't know if it's a fun fact but it's a fact about myself. Some people think I'm unapproachable because of my poker face, and they perceive me as maldita. But little do they know, when it comes to this man, I turn into a 'PABEBE' girl. It may sound cringy, but I become a soft and gentle girl when I'm with him.

Another fact about me that not everyone knows is that I am secretive with people; I can keep a secret if someone confides in me. However, when it comes to this man, all the secrets come pouring out. I know it's not the best trait, but I can't help but chatter away when I'm with him. In short, I become a different person around him. Some may say I'm obsessed, but it's not that. He's my best friend, a genuine person who loves to take care of me. In return, I treat him with the love and care he deserves because he also wants to be loved and cared for by someone he loves. Another is that I have a huge crush on him. I don't pay attention to any other man; it's just him that matters to me.

I used to perceive myself as an intelligent person, believing I had enough knowledge to excel in every test. However, over time, this perception has shifted. As I pursue this degree, I have come to realize that my intelligence may not be as high as I once thought. Instead, I have recognized that my success stems from my hard work in meeting all the subject requirements and my eagerness to study the provided lessons.

There was a period in my life where I doubted my abilities as a student due to my disappointment in test scores. I often questioned if I truly belonged in this program or if I was simply lost. However, a quote that has become my life philosophy is, "If you're the smartest person in the room, you are in the wrong room." Upon encountering this quote, I realized that I had underestimated myself. I possess unique traits that I believe are crucial for navigating this degree, and it is because of these qualities that I continue to persevere.

Having an inspiration is essential when pursuing this degree, and my biggest inspiration is the man in the picture. An inspiration is the person who helps you become a better version of yourself. While God is also my inspiration in life, my family is my primary reason why I strive for success in life. They are the one who has seen me at my lowest and yet loves me wholeheartedly.

There have been times when I felt like giving up due to various challenges, but when I look at them, suddenly I have many reasons to succeed. My parents are the people who understands me even when I struggle to understand myself. They are always there, striving to be the person I love, despite facing their own life challenges. Because of them, I want to express, "Life is tough, but you all make it easier for me."
