         <title>Origins of Cyprus Boundary Dispute</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>In the late 19th century, Cyprus became under British rule. Greeks living in Cyprus wanted political unity under Turkish rule with a sovereign Greek nation. Turkish people living in Cyprus wanted the island divided between Greece and Turkey. After Britain lost it's control over the island, differing ideologies led to the US and Britain offering Cyprus the plan to become its own sovereign nation. This was done amid fears of growing Soviet influence in the region.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The new government's leader, Archbishop Makarios, started to make amendments to the constitution. This led to fighting between the two groups, Turkish leaders saying they were kicked out of the government and Greek leaders saying that the Turkish leaders left to form a competing government. War broke out in 1974, and Turkey took control over the Northern area of Cyprus. </div>]]></description>
