One song that appears to be influenced by Emerson's essay is "Brave" by Sara Bareilles. In the song, Sara claims that she "wants to see..(us) be brave", similar to how Emerson want us to "express ourselves". Thus, Bareilles claims that "sometimes a shadow wins" similar to Emerson suggesting that we should "advance and advance on Chaos and the Dark".

Throughout Emerson's essay, he appeals to our sense of knowledge as he has us question "the power which resides in" ourselves. Thus, he draws to our attention that it is of value for us to "accept the place the divine Providence has found" for ourselves; we should appreciate the aspects of our lives no matter how minuscule or insignificant they may seem.
