Canadian pilots, like Billy Bishop, helped to advance Canada's reputation as a reputable air force in WWI. Canada did not have its own air force until the final months of the war; however, by war's end, almost a quarter of all British flyers were Canadian. Yet, in August 1914, flying was still in its infancy. And with Billy Bishop's encouragement, many soldiers were trying with aircraft and got into air force which made a progress in Canadian military.

In 1918, under the War Measures Act, the federal government enacted prohibition, which banned the making and selling of liquor. Several provinces had already brought in prohibition. Prohibition was widely seen at this time as a patriotic duty and a social sacrifice, to help win the war.

Prohibition led to an increase in illegal manufacturing and selling liquor between provinces from 1920 to 1933. Especially Quebec, where drug was a big concern . The government was expected to make Canada greater but due to lack of control on drugs and liquor, it made Canada worse.
