Avatar 2009 has a MPA rating of PG-13
This movie was rated PG-13 because of super intense battle scenes, sensuality, language, warfare, and smoking. There are guns, arrows coated in deadly toxins, knifes, missiles, RPG explosions, ect. Corpses are seen throughout the movie. Humans, animals, and Na'vi can be seen dying or being injured/set on fire. The Na'vi (the native humanoid species of Pandora) wear traditional tribal clothing. Kissing and mating scenes are included with no explicit description. Mild language is used and people can be seen smoking cigarettes.

Avatar The Way Of Water has a MPA rating of PG-13
Like the first movie there are many violent and action packed scenes. Many fights between the invading species (humans) and the native Na'vi. There is lots of death and bloodshed especially in ATWOW. There are scenes of cloned Avatars being shot with both firepower and bows, animals being shot, the burning of homes, fights between human and fish that cause mass death, and a scene where a young teen dies after being shot in the chest my a machine gun. There if flirting and love expressed throughout the movie. Slight nudity and mild language used.

Avatar The Way Of Water (2022) is set in Pandora 15 years after the events in the first Avatar movie. For 15 years humans have not been on Pandora and the native Na'vi species lead by the Sully family have lived in peace. However their tranquility is disturbed by the familiar threat of human kind as they return back to Pandora to once again try and take over, for good this time. Earth is withering away quicker by the day and humans want to make Pandora their new home. When the humans do make it to Pandora there is a one year time skip in the film, so this movie is set in the year 2170. The Na'vi clan are in a huge war from the moment humans step foot on their planet. But the Sully family are in the most danger when a sworn enemy is reincarnated as a human/Na'vi mixed Avatar, and his sole mission is to find and kill the Sully family in revenge for his human death. The Sully's are forced to retreat and leave their home land and travel to the Pandora Reefs of the Metkayina Clans. In this movie we see a whole new ecosystem and clan of Pandora that is even more beautiful than the tropical jungles and way of the Omaticaya clan we see in the beginning of this film.

Actor: Laz Alonso
Character name: Tsu'tey te Rongloa Ateyitan (diseased)
Role of Character: He was the Omaticaya clan's finest warrior, he was to be the next Olo'eyktan before he died in battle. He was originally supposed to be mated to Slywanin but she too passed away before they could, so he was to be mated to Neytiri. He is one of the main side characters.
Importance to plot: He is important because he was supposed to be the next clan leader. Throughout the movie he reminds us that Jake is an alien and is there to make trouble, which is important because it reminds us why Jake was there to begin with. He seemed to be out for Jake in the beginning, he would pick on him and tried to beat him up. This just pushed Jake to work even harder and prove him wrong which in tern developed Jake's character. Later on though we see he hesitantly starts to accept Jake because of how resilient he was in learning the Omaticaya ways.
Conflict: Tsu'tey had a lot of conflict on Avatar (2009). He had conflict with the humans invading his home planet, he hated the humans and wanted them dead. He had conflict with Jake all the way up until Jake showed he was Toruk Makto, he hated Jake and wanted him gone, if not dead. He saw Jake to be just another alien he would have to get rid of to protect his planet and his people.
Relationships: Slywanin - diseased: Tsu'tey was in love with Slywanin before she died. They were supposed to be a mated pair and rule the clan when they were old enough.
Neytiri: Tsu'tey was then meant to mate with Neytiri after Slywanin's death. Tsu'tey did have obvious feelings for Neytiri but they became very good friends after Neytiri chose her own mate (Jake).
Jake: Tsu'tey was enemy's with Jake

Even though he is no the main character here he does play a major role in the plot when they go up against Quaritch and when he is protecting hid family from danger.
Conflict: Jake has a lot of conflict in this film with so mauch war around. Jake has physical conflict with the humans and army he takes out with his clan to stop there advances to take over Pandora. Jake has internal conflict when he has to leave the Omaticaya clan in order to protect his family from Quaritch, and when is eldest son, Neteyam, dies in the "final" battle. And most predominantly he has physical and internal conflict with Quaritch, they fight multiple times and Jake is always worried that Quaritch will try to find and kill his family.
Relationships: Neytiri (mate/wife)
Neteyam - diseased, Lo'ak, Kiri, Tuktirey (His children)
Spider (family friend/a son to Jake)
Tonowari (Friends/leaders together)
Ronal (Friends)
Miles Quaritch (Enemy)

Avatar The Way Of Water (2022) Character Profile #2

Actor: Britain Dalton
Character name: Lo'ak te Suli Tsyeyk'itan
Role of Character: Lo'ak is one of the main characters of this film. He is the youngest son of Jake Sully, he is meant to be the main character of the next Avatar movie so we particularly see a lot of his character development in this film.
Importance to Plot: Lo'ak is a troubled teen that doesn't like to follow the rules, he has a free spirit and hate when he is told what to do. He is a part of every major event in this movie and even caused some of the main conflicts. He feels like and outsider and that no one understands him truly, not even his own family (besides his older brother Neteyam) This is a big part of the film because he feels this way where ever he goes and this separates him from the rest of the clans he lives with. This in turn develops him as a character.
Conflict: Lo'ak has physical conflict with humans, and kills many of them. He also has physical conflict with Quaritch, Lo'ak hates Quaritch and tries to kill him. He also has some pretty serious internal conflicts. One being his relationship with his dad (Jake), it is not the best relationship in Lo'ak's eyes. He thinks his father doesn't understand him and hates him. He also has a hug internal conflict when Neteyam dies, Lo'ak thinks it's his fault and is blamed for it by Jake and it created a huge self conflict in Lo'ak, which again furthered his character development.
Relationships: Neytiri (Mother)
Jake (Father)
Neteyam -diseased, Kiri, Tuktirey (Siblings)
Spider (Friend/Sibling)
Tsireya (Love interest)
Quaritch (Enemy)

Exposition: The exposition in this film is when Jake Sully is introduced and sent to Pandora to work in the Avatar program after his twin brother passes away and is unable to finish his work on Pandora. This is the exposition of the film because these scenes give background information to our main character and tell us why Jake ended up on Pandora, to begin with.

Rising Action: The rising action in this film is when the human military force attacks the Home Tree of the Na'vi. This is the rising action because it initiates the huge final battle to protect the Tree of Souls between the humans and Na'vi, and turns some of the humans against their own kind. They take the Na'vi's side and help defend them in the final battle.

Climax: The climax of the movie is the final battle over the Tree of Souls. This is the climax because this is where Jake has to prove his loyalty to the Na'vi and help protect them against his own kind. This is also the climax because it is when the tribe's fate is decided and put in danger and could have changed all of Pandora.

Falling Action: The falling action is when Jake and Neytiri work together and kill Quaritch. This is the falling action because he was the main antagonist and was the reason all the attacks against the Na'vi were happening. He was behind all of them and when he died the threat to the Na'vi died as well.

Denouement: The denouement in this film is when Jake is permanently transferred into his Avatar. This is the denouement because it brings n ending to the movie and portrays Jake as the worthy hero he is. It gives him a permanent place in the Na'vi tribe and shows the difference between him and the human antagonists.

Exposition: The exposition of this film is when Jake, Neytiri, Neteyam, and Lo'ak are fighting on a mission and come back from the mission against the RDA in the war parties. This is the exposition because it introduces us to new characters, their behaviors, and the role they play in the Sully family. We start to see how the new family is run and the way they have lived since the humans left Pandora and how things changed now that they have re-invaded Pandora.

Rising action: The rising action is when the Sully family leaves the Pandora forest to the reefs to seek refuge from Quaritch and his team trying to kill them. This is the rising action because it moves the setting of the movie and initiates the rivalry between Jake and Quaritch again, and now starts the hunt by Quaritch to find and kill the Sully family for good.

Climax: The climax of this film is the huge battle between the Sully family and Metkayina tribe against the humans on a Tulkun hunting ship. This is the climax because the Sully family are fighting for their lives, the Metkayina are fighting for their Tulkun and to help protect their children, and the humans led by Quaritch are trying to kill the Sullys (and the Metkayina if they get in the way.) Jake has to prove himself to be a strong father and do his job to protect his family.

Falling action: The falling action in this movie is when the boat sinks and Jake thinks he killed Quaritch. This is the falling action because the Sullys and Metkayina think they are finally safe. The big battle is over and Jake did his best to keep his family alive and safe.

Denouement: The denouement of this film is when Tonowari tells Jake that his family now has a permanent place with the Metkayina people and that the reefs are now their home. This is the denouement because the family now has a safe home and has earned the respect and right to live with the Metkayina. They learned to adapt their ways and live a new way of life.

Diegetic and Non-Deigetic sounds from the film can be seen in the Tree of Souls scene when Neytiri and Jake become a mated pair. We can hear non-diegetic music playing in the background throughout the whole scene and we can hear diegetic sound when Jake and Neytiri connect to the tree. You can hear the ancestors of the Na'vi laughing and speaking. The music is non-diegetic because it is added into the scene, it is not sound that is naturally occurring in the movie. The ancestors laughing and speaking are diegetic because the sound is something coming right from the movie and is heard naturally through the Tree of Souls.

Once again diegetic and non-diegetic sounds are in the same scene. In scenes with Lo'ak and Payakan, you can hear a soundtrack in the back playing music and setting the mood of the scene when they are together. And you can hear natural noises like Payakan's noises and Lo'ak speaking. The music is non-diegetic in the film because it was added to help create the mood or tension in the scene. The diegetic sound is the sounds we hear from the characters directly and naturally occur in the film.

3 film techniques in Avatar (2009)

A very important scene in Avatar (2009) is Neytiri's introduction scene. She comes in initially kill Jake but she ends up rescuing him. In this scene, we can see three major film techniques that make this scene amazing and are used throughout the film. They help set the mood and show the role of the characters.

Lighting: The lighting in this scene is very dark, the only source of light being a torch Jake makes out of scavenged supplies. The lighting of this scene is important because it shows the fear and mysteriousness of the scene. The darkness shows Jake's fear of the animals he is being attacked by and shows how mysterious and silent Neytiri can be. She snuck up on the animals and Jake without making a single sound. The darkness makes the scene ominous, we don't know what will happen to Jake until Neytiri arrives.

Camera shots: There are three main close-up shots in this scene. The first is a close-up shot of the animal that is attacking Jake. The second is a close-up of Jake's face as an animal tries to attack him from above. And third the close-up of Neytiri's face as she hisses at the fleeing animals after attacking them. These shots emphasize the emotions these three individuals have in this scene, and make the audience
have an emotional response as well. We can see the fear and determination on Jake's face, the hunger and power the animal has, and the strength and confidence in Neytiri through these camera shots.

Camera angles: The camera angles in this scene have lots of power. We can see that in the majority of the scenes, the camera angle is looking down on Jake or trialing behind him as a runs from the creatures hunting him. The above angles show that the creatures have power over Jake because they are looking down on him. The camera below and behind him as he runs is almost like a pov shot of the creature and it gives the sense of Jake being stalked and hunted. When Neytiri comes in and attacks the creatures, there are very few scenes where the camera angle is below her eyesight. And when she is attacking them the angle is above her and looking down on the animal which again shows her power and authority over the animals.

3 film techniques in Avatar The Way Of Water (2022)

A scene in ATWOW (2022) that depicts film techniques throughout the film is the train scene when Na'vi attacks gunships and trains for supplies and to stop the overtaking of Pandora from the humans. three techniques used in this scene and throughout the film are:

Foreshadowing: This scene foreshadows Neteyam's death. When a gunship fires an RPG close to where Neteyam and Lo'ak are standing Jake comes to find them and when he finds Neteyam he checks his back for wounds just like he does when Neteyam is later shot toward the end of the film. This scene foreshadows his death so quickly that not a lot of people noticed it but it was a huge clue as to what was going to happen to Neteyam later on.

Camera angles: Once again we see the camera angles of Neytiri and Jake being in a position of power and authority when attacking gunships. They are above the choppers when they attack, this angle creates a sense of power over the people flying the gunships. Neytiri and Jake are also authority figures in the clan and in the war party so these angles emphasize that aspect of the roles of their characters.

Music: The music in this scene helps set the mood and feelings as the action takes place. The music sets that sort of tension, worry, hustle, priority, and ominous feeling over the scene. It makes the tension and action even more pronounced in the scene.

Everything has a connection to eachother and to the earth, this cinnection is important and we must protect these connections we have with mother nature and human beings. It is a sacred bond that we can control. People should stay in tune with nature and helo protect it from anything harming it.

The main message of ATWOW is the unity of a family and its strength. The strength of a family can overcome any hardship and issue that lies ahead. The whole film is based on sticking with your family and doing whatever it takes to keep that family safe. Moving, killing, hiding, and fighting, are all things a family should do to protect its own. Staying loyal and listening to each other is also a big part of this movie and plays into the role of being a part of a family.

I love both of these movies so much it's actually unreal. The plots are very similar but they have totally different themes and settings. The film work done in both of these movies is just amazing and incredible. It honestly feels like you're in a whole new world when you watch these films its almost scary. The CGI and acting are unreal in both and it is crazy how much detail is in each of these films. I personally like Avatar (2009) a hint better than ATWOW only because of the realness we get when learning about the Na'vi culture and how they connect with the earth, the theme, and plot of Avatar (2009) are more relatable to me and I just like it better. However, I like the characters in ATWOW a lot better than in the first film because we see more into the background characters and learn about the Metkayina tribes a bit more and how their characters help develop our main characters. To me, these movies can't be topped by anything else and are such an amazing part of the film industry. If I were to rate them I would rate them both 10/10 because of how much I love them but also because they are both masterpieces in themselves and they are truly what CGI film and science fiction is about.
