Data visualisations use text and image to communicate and understand data. When it comes to teaching data visualisation then Universal Learning Design principles can ensure all learners can access and participate in meaningful learning opportunities.

This talk aims to subvert the old standards for learning and bridge the spaces between data visualisation design and universal learning design (ULD). Communicating research visually - just like learning design - uses multiple means of representation to be more accessible to diverse audiences. This is not about adding accessibility after the central design work is done. This is a fundamental shift to design for the differences in human perception. This is aiming for learner and viewer agency.

Join us as we discuss universal learning design applied to learning data visualisation for business analytics. This will touch on the ULD guidelines for engagement, representation and action & expression. Along the way we consider the AI fluency framework for a worked example of using GenAI in data visualisation to anticipate and plan for challenges.

Finally, we will reflect on the Community of Inclusive Learning’s support for educators wanting to learn and adopt more inclusive practices.
