         <description><![CDATA[<p>Show the history of the ancient Maya, Aztec, or Inca&nbsp; and their continuing influence in present day</p><p><br></p><p>1200 AD- The first Aztecs arrive in the valley of Mexico </p><p>1250 AD- The people settle in Chapultepec but are soon forced out by the Culhuacan tribe</p><p>1325 AD- The Aztecs found Tenochtitlan (the capitol)</p><p>1375 AD- The first powerful leader, Acamapichtli, rules</p><p>1428 AD- The triple alliance is formed</p><p>1452 AD- A great flood occurs in Tenochtitlan, famine and starvation follow </p><p>1487 AD- Templo Mayor is finished and dedicated to the Gods. The dedication comes with thousands of sacrifices </p><p>1502 AD- Montezuma II ( the ninth king) rules over the Aztec Empire</p><p>1519 AD- Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes conquers the Aztec Empire leading to its downfall </p><p><br></p>]]></description>

         <title>Overview Of the Empire</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Aztec Empire was one that reigned from 1100 AD-1521 AD. They reigned over Central and Southern Mexico. </p><p><br></p><p>Their societal structure in rank of importance was as follows: Rulers/Leaders, Nobility, High Priests, Warriors, Middle Class, Poor (free), Servants, and Slaves. </p><p><br></p><p>Their society was formed in a valley between mountains and they were surrounded by lakes, which made for great farming.</p><p><br></p><p>Some of the most important cities in the society were those of the triple alliance. The cities that formed the alliance consisted of Tenochtitlan (the capital), Texcoco, and Tlacopan.</p><p><br></p><p>They controlled and conquered territories in Central and Southern Mexico until 1519 when the Spanish invaded.</p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Aztecs had their own form of "Trick or Treat."</p><p>The event took place in the month of Etzalcualiztli. Farmers dressed up by placing grass hoops on their heads and then went house to house demanding recompense for the labor they did, and they threatened to destroy the owners home if they were not rewarded.  </p>]]></description>

         <title>Religion in the Aztec Empire</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>The Aztecs shared many Gods (and Goddesses) with surrounding cultures of the time. There are 200 deities in their religion. Since the religion is shared, the deities are known as "Pan-Mesoamerican" Gods/Goddesses. </p><p><br></p><p>Huitzilopochtli was the patron God of the Aztec people. His name means "Hummingbird of the Left." He was patron of war and sacrifice.</p><p><br></p><p>Tlaloc was the God of rain. His origin can be traced back to the Olmec and Maya civilizations. Aztecs sacrificed babies and children to the God in exchange for rain. They did this because they believed that Tlaloc found the tears of babies and children sacred. </p><p><br></p><p>Tonatiuh was the Sun God. He provided warmth and fertility to the Aztecs, but he needed sacrificial blood to do so. He was also the patron of warriors </p><p><br></p>]]></description>
