         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972</strong>: <br>Title IX serves as a statutory law that proclaims that no one should be denied participation or benefits or face discrimination in educational programs receiving federal funding because of their gender (20 U.S.C § 1681).  Due this act, I was able to participate in numerous sports and U.I.L. activities.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Women's Educational Equity Act, Title IV-A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965:  </strong>Enacted in 1974, this statutory law promotes educational equity to females by providing funds to educational institutions to meet the requirements of Title IX (20 U.S.C. § 3041-3047).  Although this act expired in 1999, it played a large role in my educational career by ensuring my school district met the requirements of TItle IX activities.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Equal Access Act :  </strong>This statutory law deems it unlawful for federally funded schools to deny students groups from meeting based on their First Amendment rights (20 U.S.C. § 4071).  This act allowed my high school volleyball team to hold bible study meetings on Wednesday mornings in the school cafeteria.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>First Female to Graduate College: </strong> Catherine Brewer becomes the first female to graduate from Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia with a bachelor's degree (U.S. News, 2009).  This event paved the way for females to not only attend college by receive college degrees.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Current State of Education:  </strong>Title IX continues to make large strides in ensuring all students are able to learn in a safe environment free from discrimination based on gender or race (U.S. Department of Education, 2020).  The new Title IX laws focus largely on sexual harassment protecting students and educators who have been sexually harassed while protecting student's and faculty's first amendment rights (U.S. Department of Education, 2020).</div>]]></description>
