I think that edTPA does make you think and reflect on your own teaching, but I do believe that there is a better way to become a certified educator. I mentioned to some of my peers earlier that I would much rather have someone from edTPA come and observe my teaching in person for like a week. I do not think that edTPA is the best gauge of how effective of a teacher you are.

Throughout edTPA I began to take total ownership over my classroom, and I felt confused about what kind of teacher I wanted to be. I thought I was certain, but when I was alone in a class with 25 students and no other teachers to help me, I realized that a lot of the choices I was making were because someone else had told me to do them. this wasn't necessarily a bad thing, but it did make me think about the choices I wanted to make for myself to better my lesson.

I feel as though I have not been able to be fully "there" in the classroom because I have been focusing so much on EDTPA. I am not sure how others feel but I literally worry about it every minute of every day and it limits how I function in life. After filming, a big burden was lifted off of my shoulders and I have been able to be more jovial in the classroom since ending my lesson.

I think it has its benefits for sure. I know personally that while watching my videos I have noticed things that can be improved of. It has helped me keep an eye out for classroom management issues, and it has helped me noticed varied student participation. Do I like foliotek and all of the hoops that we have to jump through for EdTPA? no. Do I like the $300 fee? no. Do I think that UGA COE could run an equally effective (if not more effective) form of teacher assessment? yes.

I believe that this process does allow for solid evaluation of student teachers who are seeking to get into the field, but I'm not so sure how closely grading margins work. I think that student teachers should have the opportunity to go through with this procedure to possibly achieve a tack on to their certification, but I'm not so sure that it should be required.

No, I do not think candidates should have to go through this because it adds a lot of unnecessary pressure on candidates to send off an elaborate lesson plan to individuals that do not even know anything about them. And not to mention the cost! Its way to expensive.

No I do not think that teacher candidates should have to go through this process. While it does allow for reflection on our craft, it adds unnecessary stress to the work load that is already there. It is hindering my ability to perform well in the classroom because my focus is elsewhere.
