Nobody is exempt from having stress, on the contrary, stress is present at any time during the life span. From the daily hassles to the most important decisions such as choosing which career to study, who to marry, or dealing with an unexpected death of someone close carries stress. According to Sarafino & Smith (2017) stress can come from illnesses, conflicts, marital or family conflicts, death, pregnancy, work, economics, politics, society among many more.

Stress Quiz 1Am I Too Stressed? Self-Assessment https://www.psycom.net/quiz-results/?qid=16_2

Stress Test 1: Stress and Anxiety Quiz https://greatergood.berkeley.edu/quizzes/results/stress_and_anxiety

According to these tests I am considered to have a mild indication of high stress: considered to be average. School, work, and personal life decisions stress me out the most. Often feeling like money is not enough, or that I am constantly under pressure to get assignments done, though, college students feel the same way. Ways to cope with stress are to expressing one’s feelings by writing them down in a journal, practicing self-compassion, spending time in meditation, or exercise (Greater Good Magazine, n.d.). In some cases when stress is severe, it can deprive the body of proper functioning. As observed by Sarafino & Smith (2017), stress can ignite health problems leading to serious health concerns. For example, stress causes an individual to drink alcohol excessively and consequently causing issues in the liver or vital organs. I cope with stress by reminding myself to live one day at a time, managing a schedule but also giving myself time every day to do something I enjoy.

Greater Good Magazine.

Personally, my stress is linked with feeling overwhelmed with my responsibilities. Sometimes, I feel like there is too much on my plate attending two colleges at once, work, church, family, and my personal life is left on a corner. The best way to manage my stress is to first pray and cast out all my burdens and anxieties to God. By acknowledging Him as a priority in my life, he will direct my path making my workload lighter and bearable. This strategy is emotion-focused since I used my thoughts and belief system as support coping to relieve stress (Rabenu, Yaniv & Elizer, 2017).

General ways to relieve stress is to clear your mind by doing other things like going for a walk, talking with a friend, go for a run, or play an instrument. Stress is managed differently depending on different factors of the individuals. Sarafino & Smith (2017) define two types to manage stress: emotion-focused and problem-focused. Emotion-focused coping aims to control stressful situations through emotions. Examples of this approach are the use of alcohol and drugs, emotional support, engaging in activities. Problem-focused coping refers to using a resource to reduce stress, like quitting a job because is too stressful or creating a new schedule that fits school and work.

Stress affects different areas of the body. Mentally, people develop a sense of personal control over their lives that can stress them out. Emotionally, personality plays an important role in stress. Type A personality tends to have more stress since they have hostile and competitive behavior that leads to coronary heart disease and hypertension (Sarafino & Smith, 2017). Physically, in cases of chronic stress individuals can jeopardize their health by consuming more alcohol and drugs. Additionally, stress can impair the immune system and cause ulcers, asthma, and migraines among more.

I learned to make God the center of my life, and so everything that I do revolves around him, even in the smallest things. My way to cope with stress is through prayer and meditation of the Word of God. The Bible says Isaiah 40:29 "He gives power to the weak and strength to the powerless." I often feel weary and want to give up, but God reminds me that he is my strength. When I think I am weak, God says I am strong because he gives of his strength.

Sometimes I talk with my parents, go to my local gym, or play some music on my piano, but most of the time is at my church Pentecostals Of Phoenix. I believe God has a greater healing power than any medicine, even though he uses it to heal people. Though, He is the greater fountain of healing and strength.
