Pd. 3 Viruses: Are They Among the Living?! by Jennifer Homoki

Post a comment on if you think viruses should be considered alive or not and use data from our discussions/notes to back up your claim.

Then respond to at least one other person, either elaborating on their claim or asking them a question.

How I can support my claim is the fact that most scientists believe that they are not alive because they cannot reproduce.

I would classify viruses as nonliving. I would believe this partially because of the evidence such as the fact that the virus relies on the host cell, and partially because the fact that cars don't live, but are controlled by humans to make them appear alive.

I believe that viruses should be classified as alive. The article gave reasons to explain how it could be alive and how it could not be alive. The way I see it, a virus is like a seed. If you don't plant it, it won't grow. If the virus isn't in the host cell, it doesn't do anything. Although a virus can't react or do anything without a host cell, it still has the potential to do things.

why I believe viruses are alive and facts that support my claim. virus are theoretically alive because like life they reproduce in there own special way and should not be decimated that thy at life because of there form of doing this. they do not need to eat maybe because as they are born they have foo preemptively stored in them. also as some people say, they don't need to use energy just like human do when they are in a car viruses use the cell as a ''car'' and don't need to use energy like most creatures do. but they still use this cell and force it to make genetic copy's of its body allowing there species to evolve and change over time and well rocks don't change to have spike and diamond outer coating to protect its self from miners or other things like algae and moss that erode them. virus have evolved to ""hunt"" a specific life form called cell and are fundamentally only able to show more characteristics when they have come in contact and taken a host cell as there copying device. they have Dna that all forms of life have and even these do except they dot have cells. maybe because they are there own form of cell that has evolved over time to live life on its own which would make sense because cell are always in danger so they evolved to have a better chance at survival then cells. I also think this because they ""know"" about the cell its going for so maybe at one point its evolution came from one of those and are evolved to find and ""hunt"" these life forms. these life forms have evolved to adapt to there surroundings they are alive cause they are a big role in our life on earth and comes as a package with this world. this is why I think

On top of that we use when we get vaccinations we are given a "dead" form of that virus. For example the flu vaccination doctors give the dead flu virus to build an immunity to it. The question is how can it be considered nonliving if we are given a dead vision of it. Also it doesn't make sense to say if it is nonliving to inject it into our body because we don't want infectious particles in our body. That's why I believe it's living.
