Needs review by group.

Our concept for this project is to look at student well-being and the impact on their ability to be productive and focused in the classroom. Namely: The system of schooling means kids are parked at their desks for a good part of the day. This goes against years of research that says active bodies helps with focus, behavior, and learning. Improved academic success is tied to active kids.

There are known barriers to make sustained and systematic changes. (Lack of time in the school day, policies around "safety" that are in direct conflict with some activity.)

We see this as an opportunity for collaboration between the DigNews and VEX to employ different storytelling approaches. Our goal: Think outside of the box for content, presentation, packaging. Likely we will not rely on any long narrative pieces.

At the core:

Solutions-oriented content and innovative approaches.

Teachers incorporate movement in a classrooms and we want to see that, but are there examples of sustained and system-wide attention to activity where school leaders have tackled known barriers.

We are thinking we want to show Elem, Middle, High School. Rural, Urban, Suburbs. (High poverty schools for example may not have the same opportunities and safe spaces to incorporate movement. Who has solutions?)

The group thought to keep this to more practical-implement more immediately stories. The program provides a model for fitness education that includes the use of a health-related fitness assessment, as well as educational and motivational tools to support teachers and empower students to adopt an active lifestyle. The PYFP provides teachers with tools to promote fit and active youth. Sustained positive messaging from programs like PYFP arguably has the potential to contribute to the development of healthy school culture. Based on this mission, the PYFP has used ongoing, content-based professional development (PD) as a medium to transform teacher knowledge by sharing strategies for providing quality physical education in schools.”
