good evening! I'm not an ICT administrator and I'm not so confident with Systems security issues . One of the things mentioned in the video is the problem of shared accounts like class accounts which we on the contrary do normally use in our school . How high is it the risk of an improper use of this form of account? Is there a form of security procedure which could be introduced to make such accounts safer? I didn't have any problems in the past and I normally use a class account to use for example some tools and apps for our eTwinning projects but I haven't really thought about the risks of a inappropriate use of it by my students. We normally try , by doing such projects, to educate and foster a sensibility to an aware and responsible approach to the use of the net and all its tools and forms including class accounts.

To me it is very difficult to track access to information by students because in computer labs they work on individual workstations.
According to you, if it will be better if the network is transformed so as to have a server where to allow or prohibit access to information?

I've watched the recording and found it very interesting. One of the rules in our school is not to use shared account. We have just implemented G Suite and every teacher and students are having their own account. It's very important that every end user (students and teachers) should be aware of possible risks. To share documents we use of course Drive by G Suite. The network itself is accessible only by LAN cable, we don't have a wifi, and it is protected by a physical firewall. The computers are protected by a free antivirus and free antimalware. There are two different users on each computer, and only a few of us have got the password to access as Admin and download... In the past it happened that someone watched films through streaming and the pc got infected with malware and adware. After solving the problem it was clear to us that there was a lack of information about how unsafe (and illegal!) this was. Now it is a clear rule that this is not allowed! Many issues are really part of digital education.

For the record, I find this course a breath of fresh air.
thankfully, we have a school management who support major developments with ICT in the school and have helped us develop an innovative, cost efficient, student friendly ICT infrastructure complemented with appropriate software. Our business model has gained a lot of interest over the last few years.
To help schools, we are planning a large scale Virtual Desktop Infrastructural project where we hope to have c. 3,000 users log on to a cloud based server which is centrally maintained while giving separate schools autonomy to what programs, permissions and software they will allow them to see.
Does anyone know where funding to undertake such an analysis of a large-scale action research project can be sourced? Replies to tcollins@bgsmail.e please.

Our school we have a network that serves the classes, offices and laboratories.
We have multiple access levels. The offices have an internal and external network with the central administration. The classes have a local network that is used for the electronic register. Teachers have access. Students do not have access. Students have the local network have access workstations in laboratories. In each laboratory the teacher can act on each location. Not worth the vice versa.

I feel a bit better after listening to this webinar. We have gone down the route of GSuite for a few years now. I often wonder what uses our data is being put to? Why are google doing all this for free? Where will it all lead? But for now we don't have a budget/resources to pay for anything else as secure as GSuite. The goings on in a school is not a mission critical service. If someone really wanted to hack/destroy/copy our data badly enough then they would probably find a way in.

cedure which could be introduced to make such accounts safer? I didn't have any problems in the past and I normally use a class account to use for example some tools and apps for our eTwinning projects but I haven't really thought about the risks of a inappropriate use of it by my students. We normally try , by doing such projects, to educate and foster a sensibility to an aware and responsible approach to the use of the net and all its tools and forms including class accounts.
