We read out the names of the people on duty that day at the beginning and en d of each day so that they will remember to do their duties, and we motivate them by telling them that it is our duty, as a class, to take care of the class. These methods are quite effective as people who usually forget do other duties are reminded and they do it out of their own free will. Another thing we do is that we asked them to put a tick next to their name if they have done their duty, so we can keep track of who has done it.

We plan a lot of initiatives where our class can come together and do something, for example decorating our class for special events, coming together to make a gift of appreciation for our seniors, playing class binding games such as a kahoot, and of course, we encourage the class to do the monthly class challenges.

It was not really effective to just leave the duty roster on the board without reminding our class.

There are many projects and initiatives organised by the school like class challenges and kahoot quizzes, and we took the opportunity to bring our class together and do them together, thus there is class bonding. Our classmates are mostly participative in these activities, and are quite enthusiastic to give ideas and opinions.

We will remind them to do their duties and write their names on the board at the beginning of the day. Once they are done with their duties they can erase their names. It is pretty effective because we can see who did not do their duties and if they did not do it they would have to do it the next day. If they still did not do it, we would ask them to do it.

We plan quite a lot of initiatives for the class to participate in and they can also contribute their ideas. For example, we have a monthly newsletter initiative where we send a newsletter to the class about random things that month. Most of our classmates will participate in the initiatives and we will also try our best to encourage the whole class to participate.

We would occasionally send positive and encouraging messages to the class chat, to motivate our classmates to finish their AAs and to cheer them up when they feel down. This is quite effective as it inspires and cheers our classmates. We also have a class notes folder, where our classmates would put in their notes for each subject into the folder and share them with everyone in the class. This is very effective in promoting class culture as our classmates are very participative and will share their notes, so everyone can improve (academically) together and we are able to bond (even more) as a class.

At times when we were presenting, the class stopped paying attention. Hence it was challenging to get their attention back and make them enthusiastic and interested, at the same time, we had to think of ways to make the presentation more interesting.

We try as much as we can to get the whole class to be included in the class challenges. For the parts that the exco did, we make sure that we send them the ending product for them to take a look. This makes them participate actively and feel included in class challenges

We printed out a copy of the duty roster and placed it on the whiteboard. We also wrote the names of the students on duty on the whiteboard and asked them to tick the box once they completed their duties.

This method is quite effective as writing their names on the whiteboard will remind them that they are on duty.

We participated in many class challenges to strengthen bond of our class. Our classmates are mostly very participative although some of them had to be asked to participate.

Some problems that we face are the PLDs. We feel that the class is using their PLDs somewhat irresponsibly as they are constantly on their devices. When we speak to the class (like RHD), they continue using their devices and do not listen to us, no matter how many times we ask them to put away their devices.

They also do not participate actively during discussions, most of them going off-topic (like speaking about their latest Webtoon or C-drama) and do not pay attention in lessons. A lot of people are too lazy to do their duties as well, causing the class to be given 3 warnings.

They also misuse their devices in class, like using whatsapp web to link their ipads to their phones during lessons, or using phones in classrooms even though the teacher in class did not explicitly give them permission to do so.

There are other pressing issues in our class which we have taken note of and informed our FT.

We have encouraged our classmates to do their duties daily by having a duty roster put up, so as to remind them every day. We have also established a reward system at the end of every term, whereby the top 3 classmates who have been seen consistently doing their duty would be rewarded a prize. We are also considering continuing Semester 1 EXCO's "duty-leader" initiative. Everyday, there will be a duty leader who will be in charge of making sure that the people on duty that day will do their duty and report back to EXCO.

Our class participated actively in most of the class challenges, and we had lots of fun making the videas and decorating the classroom with hearts. We also allowed the class to decorate the whiteboards at the back of the class, and they particularly enjoy drawing on it, allowing them to bond whilst drawing.

We started an "encouragement board" initiative, where the class can stick up sticky notes with words of encouragement to the class for AAs, PPAs etc. The board also doubles as a "memory board", where the class will write memorable things that happened throughout the year on the board. We also have an "encouragement cup" initiative where we have a cup filled with encouraging sticky notes for our classmates. the initiatives are somewhat effective, as there is participation, but not a huge number of participants (probably around 5-6 people have participated)

We have our big plant family (big bob, small bob, tiny bob, lili and lala). This helps bring our class together and is something that we are proud of. We also have class mascots (spicken-inclusivity, brioche-passion and Orie Duo-teamwork) who represents our class goals and they are adorable<3. They help motivate the class to carry out our class goals.

What are some problems your Class EXCO faced?

it was challenging to get the class to all participate actively in initiatives such as class challenges. when we asked the class which challenges they would like to do, not the whole class raises their hands. we try to encourage them to participate enthusiastically in these challenges, but we are unsure of what methods to use, and to what extent we should do that—would it be pressurising if we keep doing so? there are also some deadlines that exco sometimes struggle to meet, sometimes due to too many tasks on hand. it is hard to find a platform and method where all the exco members would consistently use, and we are also trying to find a suitable method where we can plan timelines. currently, time management is a major factor in the class, and we would like to improve on that.

We asked them to fill out a google form for their days that they are free after school to stay back for awhile to do their duty. Then, we created a duty roster. We also write the people on duty’s name on the board to ask them to tick their name off after doing their duties. For the subject representatives, we asked the class whether anyone wants to volunteer to be and if there was no one, we asked whether the semester 1 representative was ok to continue being the rep.

It is quite hard to get the class to stay focused or just pause to listen to things we have to say at times.
We try our best to speak the loudest we can and rally the class together with things that would get their attention like humor or really just speaking louder

Recently, when doing the class furnishing proposal, we also had the problem where the class was not responding to the form we had them do (to hear what they have to say) and it was hard to decide on what furnishings to get since we had little to no response and did no know if the class would be happy with them. We shall try to remind them more often not just online but face to face in school to, and explain more clearly to them the purpose and what the event/activity is about.

in addition and with all honesty, the class does not actually really do their duties like taking out the trash or spraying the cleaning solution on desks for the class to wipe. we already tried to remind them everyday but it does not really work out still even though they say yes. to help out with this we are thinking of (but still have not) printing out a small list where people can tick off their names everyday after they are done with duties.

To promote class bonding, the class (not just class exco) just likes to frequently chat in the class informal chat. we talk about anything and to exco we feel it may be good to let the class get to know about each other even if we do not see each other at the time, and if any conflicts or problems arise we also try our best to resolve it in a rational way together with the class so that there are lesser misunderstandings.

Sometimes when we try to get the class to participate in class challenges, not everyone is willing to participate. When we want to tell the class something, there are some people who are not paying attention and thus may not know what is happening. Other times, even when our classmates know what is going on, they might be too busy and forgot about what we were telling them.

On days where we were receiving our exam papers, there will be a lot of negative comments about themselves getting low marks or failing. Thus, we try to encourage the class as much as possible to keep up a positive mindset and try harder for our EYAs.

We also let them draw anything that was appropriate on the whiteboards at the back of the class so that others can look at what they have drawn or written or simply enjoy drawing something together. We drew a class duty roster on one of the noticeboards and assigned one group of students to do their duties each week. We will check with them after school to ensure that they have completed their duties. If they still do not do it, we will remind them before school ends.

When doing class challenges, we always try to include our classmates in activities that everyone can do such as photo challenges and whiteboard decoration. However, sometimes we do not get full participation from our class because they may not be aware of the initiatives.

We have a class notes initiative whereby everyone can contribute their own notes into a shared folder. It has proved quite effective as our classmates got to share and learn from one another. It has also helped to foster a sense of togetherness as everyone combines notes to help one another.
In addition, we allocated a space behind the white board for the subject reps to write down fun facts about their respective subjects. Instead of focusing on content heavy information, the board aims to promote the subject and let our classmates cultivate an interest in a certain subject. Our classmates can also contribute to the boards, such as book recommendations or jokes and puns. This really helps to lighten the mood of the class and make the subject much more entertainig.

We did a feedback board at the back of the class where the class can write their feedbacks to us and we write ours to them. An example of feedback would be late submission of work and we will also give them suggestions on how to improve. So far, there has been no feedback from the class, so it is not really effective but we will try to get the class to participate more actively.

One of the biggest challenges class Exco faced was to get our class to be more participative. Sometimes they are not very willing to participate and help out in some of the things we prepared.

A member of the exco suggested that we have an initiative called "milo nights". This initiative has yet to be implemented, but we are working on it and planning on rolling it out soon.

- It will be conducted once every month/two months

- We will avoid conducting this on PPA days/days where we have a lot of AAs/assignments

- This will most likely be carried out during a weekend

- Everyone will get a packet of milo (from a classmate who has milo in bulk and is willing to give them out to the class)

- We will have breakout rooms for our classmates to be comfortable and bond with their friend groups first!

- Thereafter we will mix our classmates around and randomly assign them to different breakout rooms, where they can bond with other classmates

- Ultimately, after we close the breakout rooms, we will all bond with the entire class.

- Teachers are invited to join if they have the time and are interested!

- Activities such as games (eg. skribbl.io, gartic phone etc) will be carried out, if not regular chit-chatting is fine too

It is ultimately a night that we want our classmates to enjoy, so what they want to do is mostly up to them, although we will be suggesting some activities!

We promoted some bonding initiatives such as milo nights. We think this bonding sessions would help make our class more united and feel our class spirit through playing games and chatting with our friends. Our class had also been more proactive in class challenge suggestions and plans. Even things we considered normal, such as class challenges or the recent olympics were turned into opportunities for class bonding, as we laughed together at our class challenge videos and cheered on sg reps for the olympics.

We inculcated good habits in our class such as responsibility by ensuring the class do their duties. To do that, we have an EXCO member every day to supervise the people in charge of that day's duty. We also wrote the names of people on duty on the whiteboard to remind them to do their duties.

Some of our classmates did not seem too happy with what we had planned for our class as leisure or allowing the class to bond, and they seemed to think that it was a waste of time.

In cases where we needed to record videos for class challenges, some of them were quite apprehensive about it and began complaining that they needed to go home to do homework.

Of course, we fully understood that there was quite a bit of homework to be completed and some of our classmates had long travel times to reach home. However, we only required them to stay back for 10 - 15 minutes (at most) to film a short bit, so we would have really appreciated it if they had been a bit more enthusiastic and cooperative, especially since if they had worked with us, we could probably let them go earlier.

There are a few things that we have done to encourage our classmates to do their duties. These include:

Printing out a hardcopy of the duty roster and leaving it on the whiteboard so that they can refer to it easily.
Writing down the names of those on duty that day on the whiteboard (we have a small section used for this)
After school, we always remind them to do their duty
We have a rewards system which requires them to do their duty every week.
We have at least one exco member on duty everyday so that we can help look out for and remind our classmates should they forget

Overall, our efforts have not been wasted and our classmates are starting to have the good habit of keeping our classroom clean

It was difficult for the exco to motivate our class to contribute to, say, the class shared notes folder and class decoration. It was probably due to the “other people will do it” mindset, and hence everyone is not willing to be the first to step forward and volunteer. Thankfully, one of the tasks in our English AA ensured that at least some people would contribute which reminded the class of the folder's existence

- Offline Bonding Sessions after EYA- can screen videos/ shows from YouTube once a week at the end of the year and games
- Interest Groups- specially for classmates who are more shy

We shall start trying to work on getting the class to complete their duties, first trying out reminding them in the morning everyday. if it does not work out we can talk to the class about it for more awareness, and also maybe implement that system for them to tick their names off a list after they are done with duties.

the next time round, we can try to use the time in the mornings to talk to the class about matters (e.g. class challenges) so they can be reminded to be involved in what we would like them to

We think we could adapt 110’s idea of having a padlet where the class can post encouraging messages because we feel that this will draw the class together more and will also improve their mental health
