Yasss finally decided to take BMY4305 with Dr Wan this semester. First time in class doesnt always go well. Everyone knows this. I feel lost as I missed classes and I only got chance to attend on Wednesday week 2. So Dr Wan asked us to sit in group and gave us several tasks. I was grouped with Mardhiatuaini, Fadzliyana, Atikah and Nazihah. On Trello board each of us must put an information related to our topic we picked which was Soil Microbiome. Later before we start on new topic, each group need to make activities or games based on topics they chose. Interesting I knoww! :)
Lets wait for it. Also, Dr Wan wanted us to choose group in OpenLearning for VM where students from other universities involved. The class started with basic things and intros about the subject, how microbes interact with environment, what they do to our ecosystem. Ok I need to catch up FASTT !

So the class continues as usual. Just this week, we more focused on VM and review article of Soil Microbes. We were sitting in group, and discussed about microbes we want to choose. For VM, I was in group 14 together with Mardhiatuaini and Fadzliyana, there were another 2 students from UiTM and 5 students from UMT . We met everyone through Whatsapp group and already set up the date for our first video recording on Zoom. We covered introduction to ecology for this week!

Dr Wan was not around on Monday this week, but smartly she recorded the session HAHA. We sat in group and continue to work on our article review. We put all the informations on Trello, includes journals, videos, interesting facts and more. We chose C. tetani where it can be found in deep soil. Some websites provided less details so we hardly read journals to help us. On Wednesday, we had class with Dr Wan and called it a day after some discussion. See you all next week!

We now reached week 5! Time flies.. It's a week of rollercoaster emotions because of Test1 ! :O Dr Wan gave some suggestions for revision as the topic will be covered from 1 to 4. We need to create a mindmap in order to help us simplify the information and optimize the time. On Wednesday, we were invited to INTI College Nilai for a talk about antibiotic resistance by Dr Maha. Overall, the topic discussed was informative and beneficial. Least that I remembered was they made an agar on petri dish making it looks like a delicious bacterial culture jellies LOLs. We had great time and came back around 5pm.

Though the questions were not that hard but I dont think my answers is correct. Sighhh! I really hate taking multiple-choices tests, mostly because it tricky. Hoping that I can learn all of the topics and have a better results next time.

She briefly explained about the soil horizon, types of microorganisms in soils and their functions, and factors that affect microbial populations. Before the class ends, we answered questions on kahoot made by soil group. Thanks for the great half semester! We deserves a break.

It's time for a fresh start! We started group discussion on Monday, throwing ideas what the article that Dr Amalia gave was all about. Each person in group must choose one subtopic and made everyone understands the text better. The journal title was on The Plant Microbiome. My part was on The Effect of the Host on Plant Microbiome. We also played open-book quiz on Wednesday based on article, two attempts allowed in Putrablast. Later we continued class on aquatic habitat. We discovering a lot about lakes, rivers, oceans and factors contributing the maintenance of microbiome habitat.

Atmospheric Habitat. On Monday, we learnt about it . The floating microbes that influence our clouds and weather condition. From my understanding, atmosphere consist of 6 main layers ; troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere, exosphere and ionosphere. Troposphere is nearest to the earth and lower troposphere contain high number of MOs. And there are 3 stages of dispersal of airborne particles; liberation > dispersion in air currents > deposition. We also did some activities related to the topic in the class that prepared from other groups. During the class, Dr Amalia gave us a task. Each group must find and share about the microbiota that lives in specific area in human. So the first group was present on Wednesday about skin microbiome. They delivered fun facts and I learnt a lot of things that I never care before 'do not disrupt the microbial community'. Our group got liver microbiome so yaa wait for it !

This semester we have so many public holidays fall on Monday. On Monday, we did not have class. We continued on presentation with other groups which was on gut, eyes, and mouth. There was no lecture from Dr Amalia. We know that billions perhaps trillions of microbes live on us and in us. Each of them has specific role that contribute to human health. Like in gut, microbes trigger behavioral change if there any dramatic changes in stomach thus will change the microbial activity. Some will lead to disease pathogenesis if they not happy in it. In the end, we must keep our microbes balance that busy keeping us healthy. The end of class. Our turn will continue next week.

The test wasnt that hard, just tricky with some questions. I dont wanna say much about it as I prepared lots of last minute memorization. That's all for this week. Thank you!

We had our class on Monday and a replacement class on Friday morning. On Monday, Dr Amalia gave lectures about food microbiome and microbial interaction. We also played some activities from the group that prepared the questions. It was interesting how foods are created purposefully by adding microbes. They inhabit, affect taste and smell and some can cause contamination of foods. Dr Amalia created activity based on Fusarium sp..A microbes that associated with plant wilt. She wanted us to create a mindmap that has positive and negative relationship. Before the class ends, our group had presented SCL activity on Liver Microbiome.

Everyone was happy because we did not have class. Lols. We went there by bus and reached around 2.30pm. We were late and missed the health talk. So we only had opportunity to tour around and had a brief talk with the worker there. Before we leave, we bought yakult drinks and took some group photos. Tq Dr Wan for arranging the trip!
