Thoreau talks about the visitors he meets during his isolation, particularly a "most wise and humorous friend". He comments on how this friend of his is thought to be dead although none can show where he has been buried. He speaks of an elderly woman who, to most people, is "invisible". Thoreau remarks on her unequalled genius and her vast recollection of memories that has come with her age.

What are Thoreau’s thoughts on solitude?
Thoreau appears to greatly appreciate the company of those who visit him. This seems to lead to the conclusion that he does not want isolation from people but rather, isolation from society.

Thoreau talks about how innocent nature is, and how humans can bring down it's beauty or recreation. He goes on saying because of us, nature has had a massive down fall. and he goes on to defend it by saying, "Are we not apart of nature?"

What are Thoreau's thoughts on solitude?
In this paragraph, he goes on in a point of direction where we should be one with nature, but because of past human acts we have pushed our selves away from it and we have and are making it worse.

Thoreau's own solutions to good health is not through the talking of medicines but through fresh morning air, which like mana can not be kept, and a healthy attitude towards life.

What are Thoreau's thoughts on solitude?
It does not mean that Thoreau is alone, for he continually asserts that nature offers better society than humans do. What Thoreau means by solitude, we discover, is not loneliness or isolation, but ratherself communion and introspection.
